The Rise of the Planet of the Apes thread was started before the movie even began filming. Lots of discussion about all aspects of the movie. Fast forward to its opening weekend. People began posting all kinds of comments about the film and used spoiler tags to be curteous. Lots of people visited the thread to get a general idea about the films reception. Tons of good info can be shared about the cinematography, the score, the acting, the editing etc without spoilers, and THATS why people go to threads for films they have not yet seen.

I have come to this thread many times to discuss and ask questions after the whole season has aired because I am always one season behind (because I wait for the Blu-ray) and have never had a problem until now. I always thought it was cool that everyone used tags when discussing details.

What if a person just discovered this show and is working his way through the second season? Where does he go to ask a question?

Blu-ray.com has always advocated the use of the tags UNLESS the title of the thread cantains a warning that spoilers are allowed. This thread title does not contain such a warning and therefore tags should be used.

Its 2 clicks of a mouse....how hard can that be?

You don't have to read previous comments in order to ask a question, like I already said. People will likely quote you and that's all you need to worry about. Honestly you can Google a question and you'll get an answer, I did that with Vampire Diaries since no one had one for me on here.

A lot of threads don't say "spoilers" and people still don't use them, it's just kinda common sense not to enter a thread when an episode has just aired or currently is.

To be honest, this is just brief glance, since I'm avoiding spoilers in this thread myself and thought the guy was replying to me at first, but in the movie forums, they are review threads, so people can put up their opinions of the film and allow others to see what they thought, it's unfair to have spoilers not covered up to new films. However, in here most the threads are discussion threads, so people can talk about what happened in the latest shows, so using spoiler tags would pretty much cover every single post.

I don't think the problem is with the effort, it's just different rules are applied here than in other areas.

You should use spoiler tags in a post when part or all of it reveals an important plot point, twist or ending of a film.

Note this applies to new and old films alike. Just because a film is a classic, or because you have seen it many times, don't assume that everybody else has already seen it.

Exception
If you are creating a thread dedicated to a key plot point, twist or ending of a film, you can just include a spoiler warning in the title of such thread...for example, a thread title such as "I didn't get the ending of No Country for Old Men (Spoilers)". In that case, you don't need to use spoiler tags inside the thread. Nobody should open that thread unless he or she has seen the movie.

How to use spoiler tags
The Forum has just added Spoiler tags to the tool bar above, It works just like the quote. You can highlight the text and click the icon and it will automatically spoiler wrap the text on the highlighted dialogue.(To highlight text, just click with mouse and run it over what you want highlighted)
Attachment 14777
Here is the old fashioned way:
Spoiler tags work as other usual tags: you place the string spoiler between brackets before the text you want to "hide", and the string /spoiler after, also between brackets. For example:
[ spoiler]This is a spoiler[ /spoiler]

For the message to be actually hidden, here's how it appears when you remove the space between the square bracket and the slash:
[Show spoiler]This is a spoiler

You can tag whole paragraphs, or parts of it. You can tag even only part of a sentence. Example:
At the end of Citizen Kane, you find out that Rosebud was
[Show spoiler]the sled he had as a child
.

Yes? why would you enter a thread of something you haven't seen! Makes no sense at all to me.

Doesn't make any sense to me either. I was several episodes behind for most of the season so why would I come into a thread I know might give something away (even with the spoiler tag)? Plus, what possible insight could I provide to the conversation if I don't know what's going on? Same with movies. If you haven't seen it, why would you go into a thread about it (as you have nothing to provide and will only read about a movie you haven't seen)?

I completely understand the "spoiler" tag being a courtesy, but can't figure out why someone would go into a thread without knowing what's going on. Of all the back and forth banter about the spoiler tag here, I have yet to see a post stating, "thanks for spoiling it for me, I hadn't seen that episode yet" (and try not to do it just to show me up ) probably because they would get blasted with insults for looking in a thread about something they didn't want to know.

Rant over.

It's common sense to me to not come into a thread if I have not seen the previous episode yet (unless I want to get spoiled)

just my 2 cents

Right. Force others to abandon the discussion so that you dont have to be bothered to use a tag.

People want to get feedback about shows and movies BEFORE they buy/rent them. They have to come to the thread to do that.

I really cant understand the sheer arrogance on display. The tool was DESIGNED for this specific purpose.

To use if you CHOOSE to. You don't have to use spoiler tags and in this case we shouldn't. The final episode has aired meaning past tense meaning it's fair game to discuss it openly. If you know that the final episode has aired and you don't want to know what happened then why in the hell would you expect to come into a thread to see spoiler tags. You better expect and will get an open discussion of that episode. Sure there are going to be some people that use spoiler tags but most of us won't because we don't have to.

As for your Rise Planet of the Apes example of it being discussed before the movie opened is pretty obvious. No one is going to discuss what happened in a movie that no one has seen unless there are those few that have seen it before it's release date and those people usually use spoiler tags. I could understand your point in that situation but in this situation being that BB season finale has aired I don't see your point of complaining about.

They can look on Google for reviews. They can view Amazon. There are plenty of places for reviews/feedback without spoilers. A DISCUSSION thread is for discussions. It contains spoilers. You view at your own risk. There are threads on this forum for the Blu-Ray, and there is a thread for show discussion. Most shows get new threads for each season they release. If a person has a question, they can view whichever thread has the season they require info on.

Yeah, I agree with those that think spoiler tags aren't necessary in these type of threads. I just started watching BB a few months ago and I'd never peek in here until I was caught up, especially with a show like this.

I have season 1/2 on Blu that I've never watched yet. I've only seen them when I downloaded them before the start of season 3. So I've only seen Season 3 and 4 on TV in HD. Never seen 1/2 in "Good quality". Excited to go back and re-visit 1/2 eventually!
