All those displays were put in VIVID mode for the demonstration of brightness. That's absurd.
And the QD doesn't look better to me. It looks brightly washed out. Vs the one on lower left looks pleasing. Looks depthful and punchy contrast. |

Here is a pic from the same scene taken on my 77A80J by my crappy 4 year old mobile phone (Dolby Vision Dark - Settings at 90% of max).
I bet Samsung deliberately botched WOLED settings on this demo setup or its due to camera exposure. |

Over 25% of ALL the TVs sold in the world are from Samsung. They are the #1 TV seller.

Taking bets that the new Samsung OLED either a Samsung or a Sony using their technology is the winner of the next Value Electronics Shoot Out.

I'm fine with my Samsung products right now. I use their 32 and 40-inch FALD HDTVs as PC displays and they make great TVs for watching my BDs and streaming. My only real complaint is that their remotes are not entirely 100% compatible and functional between the disc players and TVs, so you have to find a remote that fully works with both, as Anynet control using the remote (HDMI CEC from TV to player) does not fully work across the board between all of their recent TVs and players.

Also in this particular case with the 2022 QD OLED panels will only be available in 55" and 65" so if you want a smaller or any of the larger screen sizes QD OLED is not for you in 2022. Zoom in on the .pdf summary of our expert panel votes from our 2021 TV Shootout to see how we designed the ballot. I think we'll see a very limited supply of one of the QD OLED before September, but regardless of when it comes we'll do everything possible to schedule our 2022 TV Shootout to accommodate all relevant TV series, and Samsung's and Sony's QD OLED are key premium TVs for the 2022 model year. Seems the X95K has less than 1000 dimming zones. Again, merely matching the current market but not pushing it. Maybe the Z9K will be better but I doubt by much. Sounds like the benefits from QD-OLED are subtle at best too from what’s already currently available. Unless something drastic changes in reviews and impressions I won’t likely ‘upgrade’ anytime soon. At least not from Sony. Maybe we’ll be surprised by the professional reviews but im not holding my breath given Sony’s recent trends. |

I always have a soft spot for Sony 'Z' series as I adore their industrial look and craftsmanship. I might sell one of my kidneys for 85Z9K ![]() As of now, it looks like Z9J is the successor for ZD9 going by what I am reading in the owners thread in AVS. Few have measured their TVs touching 4000 nits !!! I think 77A80J is $2900 in the USA which is think is a fair price. So not all Sony TVs are priced high. |

Their processing is great but they really limit them at the same time when they have so much potential to push the technology way beyond what other companies offer. But at the same time they do price those flagships as if they’re indeed innovating. Don’t mean to sound all anti-Sony as they definitely have a good spot in the TV market with some of their other models, but the choices they make with their flagships are very bewildering to me. Take the fact they’re using mini-LED now. This has the potential to practically eliminate blooming. And I’m pretty sure their processing could handle all the dimming zones needed to do so if they actually tried. But instead, they’re basically merely matching what they already had with the Z9D way back then. With mini-LED, sure. But that technology is basically being wasted since they already achieved that with regular FALD that wasn’t using mini-LED. The zones are brighter but combined with the wide-angle tech and brighter zones, the blooming will be more obvious. Last edited by samlop10; 01-25-2022 at 02:53 PM. |
