You might try this one this one if you haven't seen it yet. It's a Polish site but they have some equipment and do take measurements on real HDR content at least.

That’s more for modern SDR downconverted from HDR though, no? Whenever I’m comparing a UHD to its legacy SDR equivalent I’m not bumping the latter to 200 nits, no way.

The only useful review:

https://hdtvpolska.com/test-recenzja...z9j-8k-opinie/

Contrast still shallow than ZD9 but overall rated as a better TV.

You will hear conflicting opinions but if you buy it and rate it better than the ZD9, I would happily pull the trigger but my 77A80J will still remain my house as I find it better than the ZD9 in most areas.

In AVS, most owners are not movie watchers and sadly most of them are Ill informed when it comes to picture quality.

When I had the 75ZH8 briefly, I was disappointed by the poor contrast and blacks side by side with the ZD9. It did excel in very bright high APL scenes. This X-Wide angle has definitely hurt native contrast.

My mind tells me wait for 77 or 83 QD-OLEDS but my heart tells me to try the Z9J.

Can somebody clear this up for me. 4:4:4... Do I need this on for when I'm watching UHD? Or is it really just for PC use?

Perhaps in the threads dedicated to promoting/mocking this or that TV model?, but I’ve viewed some threads/members postings on AVS over time which have been fine technical resources and related to picture quality. Of course, I tend to follow other individuals’, e.g. - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post20159352 and am sort of out of the loop as to what preoccupies other peoples’ radar.

I thought you were waiting for the Z9K. Do you think it could actually be worse than the Z9J given the complaints with the X95K?

I was referring to most of the folks in the owners thread.

Most of them are obsessed with brightness. It is used as the weapon of choice for any discussion. I too like brightness but contrast is important. I was mesmerised by the peak brightness on the ZH8 but it lacked contrast, deep blacks and was blooming more than the ZD9.

Always tempted by the Z9J but refrained due to price and hearing feedback about lack of contrast and heavy blooming. Also rainbow reflections can be problem It was distracting on the ZH8 unless the room was dark.

The 2 things I like about QD-OLEDS:

1. Normalised colour volume higher than competing TV tech.
2. Clean panel without vertical banding.

Yes. It is still on my radar but the release date in the UK is Sep 2022. Asking price is just £8500 (GBP) thanks to Sony tax but no way I am paying such prices.

Geoff,

Don't sell the ZD9 unless you are completely satisfied with the Z9J. On its own it is easy to get carried away with a new toy. Thankfully I had the ZD9 to compare against the ZH8. Right off the bat the first thing I noticed is poor contrast and blacks on the ZH8 I really hope Z9J is equal or better than the ZD9 in these 2 areas.

Please do feedback as it will benefit many folks who are on the fence

Don’t worry, I won’t. And agreed re: the brightness nutters, it’s the thing to end all arguments and it’s just the same two people who own it who control the narrative at both AVF and AVS with no objective calibration or assessment, not even what viewing conditions they use. So frustrating.

If you're also planning to go bigger, I think you might be better off trying to hunt down a used 75ZD9? Btw, you're not interested in the 65A95K?

Very rare to find the 75ZD9 n the UK. I have come across only 2 on sale. One in AVForums and one on eBay. I was super close to buying the 75ZD9 but decided to opt out as the asking price was £1900. Settled for 65ZD9 at £900.

I predict A95K will be "King of 4K". "King of 8K" is slightly less predictable. Will it be the LG Z2, or can the Sony Z9K become one of those rare LCDs to win one of these shootouts?

Funny how with (high-end/premium) LCD and OLED there's two opposing sides of "cultists", if you will. "Brightness above all else" for the former, and "perfect black above all else" for the latter. Light vs. dark, in a very literal sense.

With these 8K Z9 sets, the unfortunate part is of course that they're so crazy 'spensive (except for the end-of-life discounts, where they're more in line with their 4K counterparts), prohibitively so for the average "AV enthusiast". Which in turn means only a select few with deep pockets actually get their hands on one, and informed + informative opinions/feedback becomes rare.

Precisely for that reason, it'd be interesting to hear your take on the Z9J if you got one, Geoff.

Just had another measure up, a 75" would be too big for where it's got to go. So that's off.
