Not much to report there. Almost all the Samsung output is going to the professional display/digital signage market and they are available in high volume at various sizes and resolution, while the consumer models are still not materializing beyond the old 110-inch 4K model, which is available directly from Samsung and a few chosen dealers, with everyone else only having it through middle-man sales. The pro/signage units are a bunch of "individual microLED cells" taken from the Video Wall offerings and combined for FHD or UHD resolution and held together in a thin bezel frame, with the system board and whatnot arrayed behind it, like a typical business display product. The consumer offering (4K only) is a different design that is based on Samsung's older (and shockingly, still used by them) ultra-premium UHDTV - also recycled from HDTV - line that used the OneConnect control box. It apparently uses a full microLED panel, but I haven't been able to get close enough to one to examine it and nobody has bothered to do so, despite it being readily available, so we're just waiting to see what happens next.

Forget vaporware, can’t wait to see what improvements the LG G4 has in store. Doubt I’m upgrading in 2024 unless it’s something significant.

Vaporware, well thus far you could argue. However, LG4 unless it is some earth-shaking new tech that LG is bringing to the market, is boring and tiring. OLED has plateaued as a display tech; any manufacturer offerings would represent incremental improvements from the previous models.

Thanks for the update. I'm willing to wait. Hopefully, my current to won't fail on me until then.

Nope, MLA in G3 made the G3 much brighter than previous years.

Exactly; I saw an 83" G3 which does not have the MLA panel beside a 77" G3 which does, and the difference was striking

I had to edit my post. LG is making some really good steps forward with OLED tech, while staying affordable, Kudos to LG.

Brightest screen is not the holy grail... really expert tonemapping and processing can make a 1500 nit hard capped screen look better HDR than a lesser refined curve to 2500-4000+

My view of the holy grail is color volume at brightness. So certain colors that map poorly currently will be benefit from QD and MLA and stuff like this all being combined vs silo to competing brands/tiers.

The new 'chemicals' still aren't out on OLED. The blue PHOLED etc on roadmap coming. There's still improvements in that evolving tech. If PHOLED comes with QD and MLA that could be a pinnacle product.

Eyeing 2026 est for this. Can't wait that long on my next upgrade, personally.

Current info says Samsung is only going all-in on QD-OLED TVs and monitors for the next range of consumer product additions, so I don't expect anything to change with their offerings of microLED for consumers, at CES 2024.

QD-OLED doesn't excite me, especially from Samsung. They used to bad-mouth OLED. I strongly believe they have Micro-LED ready to go, they just decided to gravy-train that OLED money for the time being because they were missing out.

"MicroLED display is a term that is yet to become mainstream in the display world but have no doubts in your mind – MicroLED Displays are the future. A MicroLED display presents the best of both OLED and Mini LED technology without the risk of causing burn-in. As we approach CES 2024, we will hear a lot more about the MicroLED displays"

Those are just incremental steps until we get to Micro-LED. I've looked at QD-OLED and I'm not blown away, it looks good, but it's not revolutionary in the way that Micro-LED is expected to be. I suppose if my TV fails before Micro-LED is available, I would look at something like Samsung's QD-OLED or LG's upcoming MLA OLED displays.

3000 - 4000 - 5000 nits all goes into thin air when the TV is unable to control light output, dimming zones and tone mapping. No wonder OLEDs are able to produce quality nits over quantity. More than enough for movie watching.
