Fine, I don't demand the very greatest. I think I can be very happy with the upper mid-range/lower high-end; it'd still be the best TV I've personally owned. And this year Sony have their first 55" mini LED in the Bravia 7. Nice, a 55" mini LED with hundreds of zones? Sign me up... oh wait, not for Europe. And it's already looking like the same thing might be happening to the 65" size class. The fact that Sony are already comfortable with casually skipping entire regions for the 65" models of their flagship LCDs could be a worrying sign that high-end 65" LCDs are going the way of... well, high-end 55" LCDs. Or maybe, hopefully, it's just my paranoia. But whatever happens with LCD, OLED's got our back. Even the very bestest OLEDs are available in 55" and 65" in every market, so that's nice. But then the problem there is I have my misgivings about OLED, and burn-in is only one of them. But eh, it is what it is. I'll see where I end up! And I wish you luck on your future TV hunts, as well, and that you get something you feel is a worthy replacement for your ZD9. Last edited by MechaGodzilla; 04-20-2024 at 03:01 AM. |

I normally don't go by hype but I am hyped up for the 85 Bravia 9. All I want is the TV to outperform the ZD9 by 10% for movies. Would never go under 85 for a Sony LCD going by the past years as they skimp on zones and do low native contrast panels. 65X95L native contrast was half of the 85. I did have 2 Z9H briefly and both of them were defective from day 1 and I am thankful as it was quite a bad TV (except for bright high APL scenes). Felt like dodging 2 bullets. I think no TV will be perfect but f you are used to the ZD9 look, I am sure you will like how the Bravia 9 is going to look despite this X-wide cr*p. I hope you will find some solution that can afford you to go bigger. ![]() Personally I can't imagine go below 77 or 75 unless I have no other choice. ![]() |

I can assure everyone that when you see Sony's new BRAVIA 9 QD MiniLED TV with their new Backlight Master Drive and the new QD MiniLED panel you will LOVE the advancements Sony was able to design and build into this new premium TV.
I'm a big emissive display fan and I never thought I would speak this way, but this new QD MiniLED flagship 2024 TV from Sony has changed my mind. |

Sorry you fell that way. FOMO is very knowledgeable in the video industry and I see him in many of the Sony, Samsung and LG invite only events.
Brian of Brian's tech Therapy and me are included in this presentation at my A/V showroom filming this event live. Hope to see you in the moderated chat along with the 500+ video enthusiasts that are watching this live event. |

Screen uniformity issues are something I'm sensitive to, once I see them then it ruins everything for me, and to be honest it's the most off-putting part about getting a new TV. I can encounter different and similar forms of it whether I get an LCD or an OLED, so not happy about that. But at least I get the impression it's more of a genuine lottery with LCD; you can get a real bad panel or you can get a real clean one. With OLED, it's like some of this stuff is simply more feature than bug, and you have to accept it. QD-OLED panels were initially hyped up as being much more uniform than their WRGB counterparts, nearly perfect even. But it seems later generations have been getting worse. It wouldn't at all surprise me if Samsung intentionally went out of their way to make a good first impression, and then significantly relaxed their quality control in following years. |

Had to go through 2 LG65C8 replacements and 3 77A80J replacements due to vertical banding. Thankfully the store I bought from were understanding and cooperative otherwise would have been an absolute nightmare. |

This early hands-on by Flatpanelshd doesn’t inspire me with hope regarding Sony's new LCDs vs OLED
"First look at Sony Bravia 9 The increased number of dimming zones represents a significant leap over last year's X95L, which is consistent with what we observed in terms of zone control during our demos. We were not permitted to photograph sessions with real content, but we saw significantly reduced blooming compared to X95L. Still, Bravia 9 cannot claim to be free of blooming around bright objects, especially red ones for some reason. It makes perfect sense given that there are still only a few thousand dimming zones employed to illuminate several million pixels." https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.ph...&id=1713369602 |

I spent a lot of time with Sony's BRAVIA 9 and Sony's engineers at several private invites that I was included in.
The peak luminance is very nicely improved as is the very deep rich blacks and shadow and peak luminance detail. Thanks to the big increase in the amount of local dimming zones along with Sony's new Backlight Master Drive that now not only controls every very tiny MiniLEDs, but only for the BRAVIA 9 the Backlight Master Drive controls the luminance level of each MiniLED. Blooming is a nonissue on the BRAVIA 9 and now can only very moderately seen in a very dark room and when viewing off-axis. Last edited by Robert Zohn; 04-20-2024 at 09:39 PM. Reason: fixed typo |
