Robert meant to say "viewing off-axis".

The increased number of dimming zones represents a significant leap over last year's X95L, which is consistent with what we observed in terms of zone control during our demos. We were not permitted to photograph sessions with real content, but we saw significantly reduced blooming compared to X95L. Still, Bravia 9 cannot claim to be free of blooming around bright objects, especially red ones for some reason. It makes perfect sense given that there are still only a few thousand dimming zones employed to illuminate several million pixels."

I was about to say. FlatpanelsHD have a strong anti-LCD bias. They make a point of putting down any LCD TV, high-end or mid-range, no matter how much praise it garners from others. Only OLED will do.

And that's of course the best approach. If it doesn't show up in content, better to not go looking!

I am sure you can see blooming as they say but hopefully it is like Robert says and not noticeable 99% of the time. I wonder if it was obvious to Flatpanelshd or if they had to really check a lot of scenarios before they found it.

I am thinking this will be an improvement in blooming that will make existing LED owners happy. Whether this is strong enough to convert an OLED owner is another question. Either way this should be a great set for a lot of people.

No one has seen any BRAVIA 9 mass production units yet.

The BRAVIA 9 prototypes I have spent a lot of time with had very minimal blooming that was only seen in a totally dark room and when viewing off axis.

Other than this very welcome enhancement, the overall picture quality is exceptional and for the first time you will see more details and depth with all images and all content. This is because of the very deep blacks and very high peak luminance capability and Sony's new 2nd generation of the very well respected Backlight Master Drive that now controls every tiny MiniLED's luminance levels.

Robert thanks for all the helpful info. How many MicroLED's does this set have? I assume it is not one to one with pixels.

Sony will not release the amount of MiniLEDs that are in the BRAVIA 9 or the BRAVIA 7. But along with the new 2024 Backlight Master Drive upgraded features Sony also increased the amount of local dimming zones and MiniLED backlights.

It sounds like it will be a mixture of zones and individually controlled MiniLEDs. Also, I'm expecting peak nits of about 2500 nits and between 800 and 900 nits of full screen brightness. The ucing on the cake, would be all of that with black level of 0.005 cd/m2. Local Dimming contrast ratio of 300k:

All I am after is a 10% improvement in overall picture quality over the ZD9. I am ok with a bit of blooming ands raised blacks. ZD9 does a very good job with rendering highlights against a dark background although it can bloom but at least Sony doesn't do a Samsung by muting highlights.

I couldn’t watch that long ass video either but from what I read sounds like all 3 are very good TVs with their own strengths and weaknesses but the G4 is the best all round TV so far this year.

What we can all buy a different TV and feel like we got the best one? Heresy! JK.

If you are buying a TV this year and your budget is under $5k, the Sony Bravia 9 is the obvious choice and the best display in this price class available to date.

While OLED might have more precise per pixel illumination, that is at the expense of the entire picture failing to meet the HDR specifications of the many movies with 3000-4000+nit content. While MiniLED is not perfect, it brings us the closest to the impactful HDR grade that is actually on the disc rather than the downgraded version OLED TVs display (OLED is essentially the "720p" of HDR). MiniLED also doesn't require the babying that OLED does to avoid burnin, nor does it have brightness loss over time as OLED can after regular pixel voltage calibrations; MiniLED is clearly the best transition technology until MicroLED is affordable

G4 is the obvious pick. I want the better PQ that OLED provides, I’ll upgrade next year though when the G5 comes out.

I want that TV to crash and burn in the market. It's an overpriced WOLED. LG's greed has no bounds.
