I'd imagine it would struggle with SDR during the daytime.

Nothing wrong with lower specced sets, it just stinks that manufacturers can label them however they want. It hurts the HDR/WGC format.

According to this article...

But let's talk about the stuff that interests us here. A movie theater screen, in your average movie theater, can probably get as bright as about 50 nits. If your TV is a few years old, pre-HDR, it can probably reach between 100 and 400 nits. Plasmas (now defunct) would be on the low side of that, while high-end LCDs on the other side.

Modern TVs can be much brighter, with the top-of-the-line HDR TVs putting out over 1,500 nits. In the next few years, we'll likely see even higher light outputs. Sony , at CES 2018, showed a prototype TV capable of 10,000 nits.
So, while I'll admit my TV isn't high-end, its still a significant step up from anything else, especially compared to a theater screen's output. If the day ever comes where I can afford to spend a few grand on another TV, that would be great...but until then, I am more than happy with what I have, and that's what matters to me.

The quoted bit means very little TBH as it's got nothing to do with what conventional cinemas can output (as those deliverables are graded for that system) and everything to do with how the TV deals with consumer HDR as a spec, which can and does exceed thousands of nits. To say yours is an HDR TV - not that you have said that, but still - is a shameful stretching of the truth, because it's nothing of the sort and is quite possibly the most underpowered 4K TV I've yet seen mentioned on the forums. It does seem to have excellent contrast tho and that goes a long way (just aks OLED owners, heh), like I said I'm happy that you're happy but...yeah.

All I know is I've gotten a huge kick out of it so far. When I watched The Matrix for the first time in 4K a few weeks ago, my eyes practically shot out of their sockets. I'd never seen that kind of vivid colors; it amazed me to no end.

As we reported last month, TCL CSoT officially announced that it has agreed to buy LG Display's last LCD production line in Guangzhou, China, for $1.5 billion (10.8 billion Yuan). TCL CSoT will acquire 80% of LG Display's 8.5-Gen LCD production line, and 100% of its LCD module line in Guangzhou.2

Latest industry scuttlebutt says that Samsung will cease production of LED products by 2030, first cutting down their TV/display portfolio and working their way through the display and lighting roster, until all their manufactured LED products are nixed. They are also said to be entering the XXL 4K/8K TV market, at CES 2025, launching TVs at the +100-inch sizes, a market segment where they currently only offer their bespoke microLED displays. This new market reach is being done to counter TCL, Hisense, and others that are offering the super-sized TVs to all of the regular consumer market segments. No information is being circulated about a return to offering disc players and there's no reason to think it will happen, but anything can happen, if the market timing and money is right.
