Non-techie here. The best TV reviewer I've seen on YouTube is Classy Tech Calibrations, but he doesn't post very often. Others I like include (in no particular order): Vincent Teoh, Rtings, Tech With KG, AVS Forum, and Caleb Denison.
Every other TV "reviewer" I've watched is either a complete ass clown, or their so-called reviews are more like long winded advertisements that don't give prospective buyers useful information. When I'm considering a TV, I don't want to hear a thirty minute diatribe about its "flexibility of image." I want to know how well it tracks gamma, the quality of its upscaling, how it handles reflections, etc. Walking into a store, pointing a GoPro (or whatever) at a TV and saying "Wow, that looks awesome!" just doesn't cut it. |

Brian came off as somewhat elitist, even comparing shopping for a Sony TV to some shopping for a Mercedes or BMW Those folks don't complain about the price, which by the way is a really bad analogy because everyone knows that BMW and Mercedes are overpriced and lose value significantly. Brian was going to bat for a greedy multinational corporation like Sony over the consumer, saying that consumer should be happy that we're getting the price were getting for Sony TVs and others. FOMO kept attacking RTings less than a less-than-stellar review of the Sony Bravia 8II. It was sad, those guys are rapidly losing credibility, they seem willing to die on that Sony hill. |

I don't know how to best reply to your post^^ Except to say:
It's not reasonable to think that Sony made their New 2025 Flagship BRAVIA 8 II QD OLED TV for my TV Shootout® Evaluation event!! Then your say "where Sony has a home-field advantage" here's are my reply to your above post: A.) An insult to me personally and professionally. B.) I created the TV Shootout 21 years ago, but I have a very long term team of video experts that run the event with me and the voting is totally independent and honestly announced at the end of every TV Shootout with all of the professional video expert judges, our digital video display presenters. Our TV Shootout results always match all of the professional TV reviewers results. Last edited by Robert Zohn; 06-16-2025 at 12:25 AM. |

It’s funny when kuros were the most expensive plasma I don’t remember people crying that they were overpriced but that the were the best tv you could buy. Now since Sony has the best tv money can buy and it cost more all the crying is about price and Sony being greedy. Pioneer nor even Panasonic when the made plasmas were not treated this way, the hate foe Sony is asinine you don’t like it don’t buy it but to sit here and say since it won the shootout from real experts in the field is set up by Sony is appalling and asinine. Just because your tv doesn’t win you want to say it’s fixed you sound like a 2 year old if Sony, loses so be it I don’t care i buy what tv I think is best period. If it cost more so be it. I also don’t see people complaining when pioneer blu ray player was the most expensive when it came out and didn’t have threads upon threads of people saying pioneer was greedy.

Some people are saying, comparing the Sony Bravia 8II to the Samsung S90F, it's not much better, slightly better at best, yet it's $1,500 more than a 65-inch Samsung. Also, keep in mind how tone deaf Sony must be; we're in what looks to be the onset of a global recession with high inflation, people in record credit card debt, car repossessions are at an all-time high, and the time is not now to overprice a TV. I need to reiterate, we had two shootouts with different results. Vincent's shootout had the LG G4 winning the best TV in 2024, whereas VE had the 2023 A95L winning the 2024 shootout. Both claim to have experts and to be scientific comparisons, yet we have different results. How does that happen? Last edited by Auditor55; 06-16-2025 at 01:43 PM. |

TV comparisons result in an number of objective findings, but the importance placed on a given finding is often subjective depending on the priorities of the person making the evaluation. Someone might value color accuracy the most; someone else might place the most importance on screen brightness or shadow detail or whatever else might be most important to them. Objective findings aplenty, but their importance can vary with the individual. |

It's due to different people being involved. Different calibrators, panel of judges, unit variation, and scoring system. A consensus would be nice but it's not always possible. Much like Rtings website I don't pay much attention to their scoring or subjective assessments it's more about reading between the lines and synthesizing it for yourself. For the shootouts I like to dig into specific categories and see where judges generally agreed. For example if the S95D scored very well with shadow detail in every event then I believe it has good shadow detail. |

Further Sony's flagship of last year received a score that was lower than all three OLED's in the shootout. |
