I do too. an ENORMOUS amount of their blus. I just checked and even "The Suspect" which just came out a few weeks ago has an IFPI 606 code on them. at this point I'm pretty much considering every single Well Go USA title that has these dead in the water and am OFFICIALLY no longer purchasing movies from them. I just can't take the risk.

Last one I have to check is The Seventh Seal. So far, everything's okay.
I've done so much disc checking over the past two weeks, it's ridiculous hahaha (between a few Criterions, couple of Well Go USA, some Lionsgate, and the Halloween box set). |

Who is to say that all discs replicated by a company will be affected. Until we know more about the cause of the problem we shouldn't jump to conclusions. Was it a process issue during a specific timeframe that has since been resolved, was it defective or substandard materials that affected certain batches of releases, is it an equipment problem isolated to that replication line?

I assume I'm not eligible for a replacement though since my disc does play.

Just to really really clarify. The mould code can be found in the clear plastic ring on the picture side of the disk. A mould code of (IFPI) 10K6 or 10K7 is Sonopress. As I understand it, this code trumps the LB42 or LO21 etc. IFPI codes on the silver side. That is, if one finds a mould code of 10K6 or 10K7, that is a more definitive identifier of Sonopress manufacture than the other codes. Correct?
By the mould-code metric, I have a whopping 13 blu-rays manufactured at Sonopress during the period in question. Some have LB42 codes on the reverse, but others have no IFPI code on the reverse, only AO1/AO3. My Sonopress pressings are Pierrot, Marienbad, Howard's End, Summer Hours, Walkabout, Ride with the Devil, Repulsion, Bigger than Life, Gomorrah, Gimme Shelter, Vive Sa Vie, Monsoon Wedding, and Lola Montes. No overt bronzing on any of them. |

Just because a disc has a specific Mould SID Code doesn't mean that all discs replicated at that plant over all the years is affected. It really comes down to what actually caused the specific defects with the bad discs. |

Okay, thanks. And I guess then my question stands. That is, the site where the glass master was manufactured is not relevant per se, whereas the site of pressing/replication is. Presumably, these sites were the same in many or most cases, but shouldn't we be focusing exclusively on the mould codes, since those indicate the process with the potential to produce faulty discs? Glass masters can also be faulty, of course, but in this case we are most likely dealing with a chemical process related to faulty sealing during the pressing process, correct? So in this case, the Master SID Code it sort-of irrelevant, except inasmuch as a Sonopress SID code is likely to be paired with a Sonopress mould code.
Sorry if I'm being dense and missing something obvious here. And I realize, of course, that a Sonopress mould code does not necessarily mean a disk will fail. I am only trying to determine the best code for identifying disks with the potential to fail, possibly, someday, somehow. Last edited by mallomar; 10-04-2014 at 08:35 PM. |

sheesh, between this and the Well Go USA bronzing I'm feeling a bit sick to the stomach (especially with them since I have 11 titles already bronzing and the another 40 that have the potential to) and rather disenchanted with the format right now. wondering how many more of my 2700 discs are hiding with bronzed discs
