Personally, I found reading those L021's very difficult.

Heck, if I find an OOP title for very cheap, or anything else regardless of what the item is for very cheap, and it's worth something you better bet your bottom dollar I'll make whatever I can off of it. I just don't do it every single day anymore like I did back then. Now it's just a case of if I happen to stumble across something at a pawn shop, thrift store, antique mall, or auction. Right now it's a lot of photographs, posters, and other such things.
Cool.
Sadly, I see college age folks with their smartphones scanning all the items in thrift stores leaving nothing good left, the pair I see look very well off and drive a Lexus.

Is there any sort of visual damage?
Yes its discolored brown tint

I'm not saying he's careless, I'm saying perhaps there were conditions that made his discs even worse than others. I'm not discounting that the CC discs are faulty, just wondering if conditions "sped up" the rot/decay. It's really the peeling discs that got me thinking that, as one is well out of the window where all these faulty discs are occurring (A Night to Remember released in 2012). He said he takes great care of his discs, so perhaps it's partly just bad luck

Another one with problems with Ride With The Devil, on the criterionforum.org. I was beginning to think I was the only one, not seeing anyone else mentioning it.

My Ride with the Devil has playback issues. I watched it for the first time late last year with no trouble, but it has problems now. My M supplements and Summer Hours also have the same browning and playback problems identified by others.

Kind of makes me worry that we'll be going through this every year once certain discs from them reach a certain age, etc..

Just saw your other posting re: A Night To Remember. Went ahead and ordered it. Hopefully it's alright. It's from 2012. Might be an isolated case.

Well, "Summer Hours," "Walkabout" and maybe "M" are turning brown for me.
Criterion needs to post a definitive list of exactly what titles are involved (not all of them are turning color, evidently), and tell consumers how to tell if they have one of the bad discs... and then replace them.

Even if a disc plays now, if it's in the "bad" list, I want it replaced. I don't want to have to keep checking my blu-rays year after year waiting to see if they're rotting or not.

This brings back very, VERY unpleasant memories of those incredibly expensive Criterion CAV laserdiscs - almost all of which developed laser rot (speckles).

I have it playing in the background. I started around 45 minutes. Seems to have played through the layer change just fine.

Humidity will accelerate the bronzing process. Brent's collection might be the canary in the coal mine for all of our Sonopress-replicated Criterions. South Carolina has very bad humidity in certain times of the year.

That's a good analogy. Someone has to lead the way sometimes, right?

Are you saying that there is a problem, and it could just be my area in general that is speeding up the process here for me on these bad discs?

Because like I've said, it certainly isn't a problem with any other BD discs I have at all.

So, I need help.

When I hold a disk the right angle, I see many, many numbers just outside of the live area of the disk on the inside. Most have an L1 in there somewhere. Some have an LI and L0. There are usually two rings at the outer periphery of the inner hub, the innermost being the easiest to read, the outer being a bit more difficult. The opposite side of these number containing hoops usually has something akin to a bar code.

Are these the numbers?

The numbers on the inside on the clear interior of the hub are pretty-much illegible to me, even with my cheaters and a magnifying glass.

Well, it's a positive development. If the discs were going to rot anyway, the humidity in your area made the problem apparent quicker than we might've otherwise known.

The numbers start with IFPI, if they are too small they are probably L02X or LB4X

Thanks, if they're the ones on the clear part of the hub, I guess I have no hope of reading them.

I think this is just an isolated case and there's no need for mass panic. My first discs from early 2007 still play fine and show no bronzing whatsoever.

I'm saying these discs had hidden problems from the factory and then the high humidity of South Carolina accelerated their eventual breakdown. Your defective BDs would have also gone bad had you lived in Alaska, but their shelf life might have lasted a little longer.

I don't think you are at fault, a properly manufactured BD should easily handle South Carolina's climate like the millions of other working BDs in circulation.

Same here. I watched the whole movie up to that point and then I had to skip a few chapters and missed about 12 minutes of the movie from 1:53 to 2:05.
