Checked my Assault Girls disc, seems to be okay, no bronzing.

All of my Well Go USA titles I've bought the last few months are still sealed, and unseen. I'm nervous to open them now.

OK, it's getting a little out of hand, here. From what data we've established here, the problem seems to be isolated to a particular manufacturer during a particular window of time. There really is no need to start wondering if all Criterion discs might fail. If you're going to do that, then you might as well start stressing about whether all Blu-rays from every company will possibly fail.

Those aren't the codes he's asking about. The ones needed are in very small print (you'll probably need a magnifying glass to read them) and proceeded by "IFPI". In the right-hand picture of the image you included, you can see a blur just to the left of the "CC". That's the IFPI code.

On the other hand, not once have I managed to spot the Mould SID on the clear plastic ring.
Thanks. I was finally able to find it under a natural light this morning. L021 though.

I guess I'll pose this as a "What would you do?" scenario. I looked at my "Days Of Heaven" disc (no problems there; I just recently bought that at my local B&N during the last 50% off sale, so I guess it was a later printing), my "Wings Of Desire" disc (no problems there as well; it didn't have one of the codes that have presented problems), but I looked at my copy of "M" and while it had no discoloration to speak of, and it played fine last night when I checked, it has the "LB42" code on it. Does this mean it's inevitably going to discolor and not play right some time down the line? And, would you send it in just in case even though nothing's wrong with it at this time? I'm leaning towards sending it in, but I would like to know what you all would do in this case.

Thanks!

1) Some discs are unplayable even without bronzing. There's no way of knowing unless you actually try to play the disc.

2) Have you checked for peeling as well?

I played some of the special features, which played fine. No peeling at all.

Should also mention that I watched the film about two months ago in its entirety and it played with no problems.

I realized that while continuing to read the thread. The "blur" says only A01 on the inner, and B02 on the outer ring. However, the IFPI code is 10K6 or 1OK6, it's stamped on the front in the plastic next to the hole in the middle

So, the peeling might not be Sonopress's fault but someone else's.

Is anyone going to send in any problematic or potentially problematic discs that are not on the official Criterion list for replacement? Or will you wait for them to be added by Criterion (if they do)?

They have asked for my 8 1/2 disc and am mailing it to them.

But I meant without prior authorization. Or do you think a letter should be sent listing all the titles one intends on sending to them for replacement?

On some discs the Master SID Code can be found on the far right hand side of those numbers. For example, with my copy of Ride With the Devil the code can be found on the right hand side of those numbers such as:

Code:
CC1878BD L0 + + J361301 IFPI LB42

There are two SID codes; the Master and the Mould. The one you found is the Mould code but there should be a Master code in the silver ring of the disc. Both numbers will be prefixed by IFPI. If the numbers you see aren't prefixed with this then they're not the SID codes.

On some discs the Master code can be extremely difficult to see since it's extremely small.

You need to make sure beforehand that they have acknowledged which discs they will exchange. Don't just send them a bunch of discs expecting them to exchange all of them.

Well, I wasn't going to send them my entire collection. I was just going to include 8 1/2 and STAGECOACH since those aren't on the list and mine will not play all the way through. Since they are swamped with e mails now I wasn't sure it was worth bothering them with a pre-authorization for two additional titles in addition to the two I was going to send that they have already listed.

If they weren't pressed in 2010-2011 you should be good

Without actual documentation (i.e. an e-mail), they could pretend that they never got the discs -- in which case, you'd be out of luck.

My recommendation would be to place information in the OP on how to identify the two types of SID codes and where to look on the discs. That information seems to be getting lost in the thread as the post count grows.
