Unlike your other two threads, I don't think these aren't playing due to bronzing, but because some firmware upgrade has made them unplayable.

Dredd wasn't a failure rate one. it was just a bad pressing that got sent out. if you played it once and it was fine, you're good. mostly only best buy got that batch.

Oh I will be rebuying from different countries like Korea for the man from no where and probably HK for the others

Yeah, don't rebuy. Read back a few more posts. You'll see that someone just bought new/sealed copies that have bronzed while sitting on store shelves.

unfortunately we'll end up paying 3x-8x the price to replace all these discs. I don't know how I'll replace the shaw brothers flicks like "heroic ones", "web of death" etc

Still send an email to mulvaney@criterion.com.

I live in Vancouver and sent him an email regarding the Eraserhead problem and I got a reply telling me to return to their office address in NY. Quite sure it'll be the same for these Criterion defectives.

Just opened up my brand new, just received copy of IP Man 2 that came with a slipcover, and I see IFPI IC0Z on the inner ring. Bronzing on the outside edge, so I guess it's hosed or will be soon.

Bigger Than Life: a slight discoloration but plays fine for now. (The mastering code was found at a different position.)

damn, even subsequent printings are affected? so far it's just been the 606 printings, but that's disheartening

Not sure. Endtroducing started a thread that mentioned The Lincoln Lawyer. We never got to the bottom of the issue, though.

Perfect example why backups of your personally owned media should be permitted. I'll be checking all my Well Go titles, and those that have bronzing will go onto a BD-R. This is total bogus.

I read about this problem a few minutes ago and a quick check of only a few disks have revealed Walkabout is severely affected and Paris, Texas has a light brownish hue. Now will have to find the others.......

I've been checking through a bunch of my other newer WELL go USA titles and some of them like "thieves" and "wrath of vajra" + a dozen others printed recently have the 606 IFPI code as well. none are showing bronzing, but I'd be real suspicious of them in the future.. I'd guess at least 50% of their films come from Utech and I honestly don't think I can trust them as a mfg anymore. I think this officially is going to kill my purchases from them in the future. we're only seeing it just start with the 2010-2011 titles, but I'm guessing next year we'll start to see titles like "thieves" (a 2012 title) and on start failing.

I mentioned that in my first post. Pay US+Canadian shipping charges, ugh the screw the foreigners solution. I am holding off for now for a Canadian solution from Criterion and sure not going to mail them off in waves each additional time Criterion admits more titles are affected.

Other replacement programs have been more Canadian friendly.

That really sucks. I've appreciated Well Go USA bringing Korean cinema to the US, but if the discs fail, how can we share them with our friends and get them onboard?

What is this even. Some of my Criterion discs rotting, and now I read this thread, so I go check my BD of The Man From Nowhere. And the disc is totally hosed. 30 seconds into the first startup trailer (Ip Man 2 ironically), picture and sound breaks up, and it's not possible to get anything else out of the disc. I can't see much discolouration on the data surface, but the disc is broken alright. It played fine when I bought it at release (great movie).

I do to. I've always been a big proponent of them bringing Asian cinema to us at an affordable price, but if what I think is going to happen happens, WG USA is going to be hit HARD in the next 2-3 years as the titles that are bronzing now start actually failing and the rest of their stock starts bronzing ... I don't say this lightly, because every company will have a goof, a bad pressing or what not, but I can't support them anymore without a complete switch in their pressing facilities and a replacement program for failed discs, and I just don't see that happening.

I hate to say this but if WG USA gets a title I either find a reasonable import or use one of those evil sites that starts P.. and ends with bay.
