I'm still compiling the information. The primary focus has been on Criterion, Well Go USA, and Lionsgate, though, because their problems seem to be so wide-ranging.

This whole debacle is making me question my day-and-date strategy towards my Criterion purchases. Especially since a thing like the Eraserhead missing scene could've been avoided. With releases from other companies I generally have a more relaxed attitude.
I watched CC by release date order, and my two bronzed discs (Summer Hours & Walkabout) I viewed in March of 2012. So almost 2 years after release/purchase they were fine (or atleast playable). Because of the fact that it can take years until a disc shows any bronzing, I can't really justify not buying CC discs, but issues like that of Eraserhead or sync issues like with Twin Peaks, can be avoided, if I relax for the first month or so. Bottom line, Criterion hasn't lost me as a fan. |

This could be related to our having the largest home video market in the world. In large quantities, problems become "magnified", even if the actual % of defective discs is fairly constant across the board.

Knock on wood I've only discovered one Blu-ray title in my collection that no longer plays for me. It's the Lionsgate release of "Requiem for a Dream" which can be found here.
The disc itself is still in pristine condition. No visible signs of a problem. The disc played perfectly the first couple times. After a year or two I went back to give it another spin and the below scrolls a line at a time on the screen, then just sits there. ![]() Last edited by AmishParadise; 10-08-2014 at 07:25 PM. |

Why all the monkeying with this thread? These are real issues that folks need information on. 1st a title change, then a mass merge including threads that have issues completely unrelated, then when it gets far too difficult to find pertinent information, links are added to the OP's signature, then that disappears. Now today the thread is turned into a catch-all for every issue known to man regarding problem discs. Frames missing from transfers, audio problems, Disney goofups, wrong subtitles, the bronzing, Lionsgate's years old playback issues... The list goes on and on. ...Stickied, un-stickied.
Why is it for example, that there can be several, 'what are you watching, what would you throw away from the above poster's list, what would you take from the above poster's list', and so on, threads, yet this one which is actually useful gets toyed with to the point where the information you'd need is almost impossible to find. What was wrong with 2 threads, one for Criterion, one for Well Go (even with this catch-all thread, a dedicated thread for each while the issue is on-going would be helpful, as well as allow this thread to not get overrun. Then when the issue is finalized, those threads go away and the solution posted here in the catch-all). I just don't understand how if those prior example type threads warrant their own, and have for years, why these issues don't. I care a lot more how Criterion handles the 5 discs I just sent back to them over the weekend than I do how the poster after me cares what title of mine he hates the most. Is it just me? |

Am I the only one that gets a 2001 vibe when looking at that?
