By the way, just out of curiosity...I know the folks here are blu-ray consumers, but does anyone know if the DVD editions of the problematic Criterion titles also have the same problem if they're made by the same pressing plant?

A nephew of mine buys Criterions, but tends to get DVDs rather than BDs, and it'd be nice to be able to tell him if some of his discs might be going bad. Criterion's replacement announcement only mentions blu-rays, but I thought I'd ask.

I think, before my time, one of the earliest Criterion DVDs [original issue of A Night To Remember] went bad quickly out of the gate (it may not have worked at all, for all I know), and it promptly got a second printing. That's the only one I'm aware of.

There were several other DVDs that got second printings for other reasons, to fix specific playback or content issues and the like. I'd suggest he investigate a thread at criterionforum.org for some of those other DVDs, and blu-rays, it's called Known Problems and Replacement Discs. *** Note that that thread is not the one for turning brown blu-rays, there is an altogether different one for that over there. ***

Referring to all the discs listed in the OP… what are the audio issues that warranted a replacement program for Fox's DIE HARD? I've done many searches to find the answer, but all I ever turn up is a problem with DIE HARD 2, and not the original movie.

Thanks for catching this.

Die Hard 2 had an audio problem, and they never fixed it. They just sent out the same bad disc.

lol I actually gave it to him for free because I got a replacement disc because I received a copy of the first pressing that didn't play in certain players.

Thank you, ordered two titles. Could've ordered three but I ordered the third from Amazon two days ago.
