FrauBlucher on criterionforum posted that they got an email from Jon saying the new discs are in and about to be shipped. Hopefully Criterion will issue another statement, perhaps with more titles.

So are people waiting until their discs go bad, or are you mailing them to Criterion anyway just to be safe? I can see both sides of the argument. Side A, don't fix it if it ain't broke. Side B, if there's a mad cow scare, recall everything with certain IFPI codes, don't take your chances, even if plenty of beef is still uncontaminated. Or will Criterion just return a disc if we send them a disc they conclude is fine.

Great advice! I'm going to hold off until the holidays are over...there's no rush, and by early 2015 Criterion will probably have a smoother system in regards to replacing defective discs.

This may be slightly off topic for this thread, but in the past I've wired Criterion five dollars via paypal and would get a replacement case with the cover art tucked inside, but this morning I got an e-mail asking whether I wanted cover art or a case to clarify, since both would have cost $10 instead of $5. What's the deal? In the past I would request a replacement blu-ray case for Rules of the Game and for $5 I would get a case for Rules of the Game. In case you're wondering, I would have them shipped to a relative in the US.
I've never gotten cover art alone from them, and that's the main priority this time around, but I'm wondering, how in God's name do they keep cover art safe when they ship it, and what if the package gets caught in the rain or something during the mailing process? P.S. Waiting until January is going to be trying on the patience. ![]() Last edited by mande2013; 11-12-2014 at 08:39 AM. |

I got a free replacement artwork for 12 Angry Men when I got a weird older version of the artwork and it arrived home safely.

Okay, I pulled the trigger and shipped my two just beginning to bronze discs to Criterion from France with tracking and signature confirmation but had them ship the replacements to my Mama who lives in NYC, so I'll get them from her over the holiday. Seems like a good compromise. Expecting the discs to make it here to France by the time I leave for the holiday would have been ambitious I think.
The price of shipping them actually was not quite as steep as I anticipated. Everything amounted to just under 9 Euro, which isn't too bad. |
