Does anyone know of a setup disc that has specific black level and contrast adjustments for DLP TV's? I have the old Avia and Video Essentials, but was wondering what the advantage of Digital Video Essentials would be over the older version and if it has specific test paterns for black level and contrast.
Also, my Mits. has seperate color and tint adjustments for red, green, blue, yellow, cyan, and magenta, along with the standard tint and color controls. Any discs have patterns and filters to calibrate the 6 seperate color/tint controls? |

So, I've been doing some digging and talking on the phone with several people. It appears that the setup discs (Avia and DVE) do not work (tint/color) for a DLP. Best bet is to have a tech come in and calibrate the user and service controls.

Any suggestions on a tool for calibrating your tv to a particular room in terms of the lighting and such? Just want to get the best picture out of my current set and hopefully a SXRD model in a few months.
Or is there a site that you can put in your model number and they will give you suggestions on what to do in terms of gray scale/lighting, what settings you should screw around with and such? |

It's different for every person. Best thing is moderate lightning, and just experiment with the settings.

I figure it's just a matter of time before we see a "Digital Video Essentials" and/or Avia versions for the new HD formats.

Would it be wise to get this to calibrate my current Sony 1080i tv through the hd dvd add on for the 360 and later on for an SXRD? |

You'll need someone to come and adjust your set, if you want the gray to be correct. Unless you buy a spider and get the code to access your TV's service menu.

These guys make Digital Video Essentials. I emailed to see if they were going to release a BD version. I'd suggest others do the same, start a campaign. |

Problem is Joe Kane (the producer of DVE) is a long time paid consultant of Toshiba.
I haven't heard much from Joe since his rediculous anti-MPEG-2 statements last June. I do know DVE was delayed because it wouldn't work in the A2 despite working fine in the A1. Gary |

Geez, he put out DTheater tapes. He knows what CBR MPEG-2 can do. And he's making fanboy-like conclusions based on a few releases at BD launch. Absolutely unforgiveable for someone of his stature. Gary |

Very cool. I'll be getting that for projector calibration for sure.
