As long as the offense does it's job, and puts points on the board, it doesn't matter how long they are out there.

Right... And he's the very rare exception.

The one and only reason that style works for them is because they've conditioned their players so well... and I'm sure they do a good job of rotating players on defense. Ask the average defense to stay on the field that long, and it simply won't work.

Chip needs to check his brain if he thinks TOP is a useless stat... For their offense, it's not necessary to win the TOP battle. For the overwhelming majority of teams (meaning pretty much all other 31 teams), winning the TOP battle is very important.

Defense is not worse than the Bears and some other teams. Dallas D is bad secondary especially but it isn't the worst in the league.

Chip Kelly is wrong.

Time of Possession is a valuable stat. It may not be so valuable that it overrides all other stats, but saying it's useless is flat wrong.

Did he really say that? If he did that's up there with the dumbest things said by a coach in the last couple years.

If the Cowboys give up 23 points in 27 minutes of their D being on the field, how much would they give up if they were on the field 33 minutes/game?

10-6 in his first season.
9-3, so far, in his 2nd season.

Both seasons Philly was among the last in ToP.

As I said, if the offense does it's job and scores quickly AND the defense holds the other team, ToP does not matter.

He could be proven wrong, over time, but right now he's proving himself right. It's also why coaches like BB have picked Kelly's brain over the years, and how Kelly's staff at Oregon will be among the most sought after.
For the time being: In Chip I trust!

For most teams it matters. Philadelphia/Oregon is built to score quickly, so ToP means less to them, but most teams need 11 possessions a game to hit their scoring mark. When they play a team that slows it down, like a Georgia Tech, they only get 7 or 8 possessions, which is often 10-14 less points per game. Which is HUGE.

This could be the new trend of the NFL. As the rules change, so will the game. The NFL, obviously, wants to increase scoring...so as you see teams like Green Bay(19th ToP), New England(22nd), Cincy(25th) and Philly(29th) have sustained success while not winning the ToP battle, and knowing it's a copycat league, more WR were taken over RB in the last draft, we could be seeing a paradigm shift here.
Of course on the flip side, the top 8 teams in ToP are all quite good...but we'll see as time goes on.
Hey, as a Philly clinging to any strand of hope I can ONLY trust Chip Kelly and his innovative ways of playing the game.

Found this interesting. It's a list of the richest NFL QB's to ever play judged by their current wealth. Most are current star players as you'd expect but there are a few older generation surprises on the list who didn't make as much as today's players during their NFL careers. Crazy how well Staubach has done for himself.

http://worthly.com/richest/football-...backs-time/21/

1. Roger Staubach - $600 mill - He's made a ton of money in real estate.
2. Peyton Manning - $165 mill - He's been very successful off the field with many ventures.
3. John Elway - $145 mill - Also made a lot from restaurants and car dealerships.
4. Tom Brady - $120 mill
5. Brett Favre - $100 mill
6. Joe Montana - $80 mill - He now makes money from wine labels.
6. Eli Manning - $80 mill
8. Aaron Rodgers - $60 mill
9. Drew Brees - $55 mill
10. Carson Palmer - $50 mill
11. Drew Bledsoe - $48 mill
12. Fran Tarkenton - $40 mill - MNF commentator and owns a software company.
12. Jay Cutler - $40 mill
12. Steve Young - $40 mill
15. Dan Marino - $35 mill
15. Joe Flacco - $35 mill

It matters for Philly too.

If he doesn't slow down at the end of games some day there WILL be a comeback which is only possible because Philly isn't burning time.

It might not be this year, but it will happen.

Anyone think we have a chance against the Giants tomorrow? Lol

They may have lost 8 straight, but we've lost 6 straight and are clearly the weaker team. I bet we get destroyed... and the Giants will probably win out. We spark ailing teams like it's our job.

Hunter is out, our OL (which already sucked) is banged up, and Wright is likely out as well.

RIP Mett.

Those of you in fantasy playoffs with Beckham on your team... You're welcome.

Dodge? You're the one bringing up what if scenarios to prove a point.

Maybe they give up 1 more point per game, maybe 10. I could even say they give up less points and you can't prove it wrong.

Please bring your crystal ball to the next argument.

Oregon has scored more points (103) in 2 games in Levi Stadium than the 49ers have in 6 (98).

I still think TEN beats us.
