Apparently the hire is not official. ESPN with sh*tty reporting as per usual.

But it does sound like he's the favorite for the job... Is he really that good of a hire for OC? He hasn't done that since 89-93, and I get the vibe he'd be way too old school and not be able to properly utilize Mariota's talents.

Eli is a game manager who had some luck and two great defenses giving up only 16 and 14ppg in two playoff runs. Trent Dilfer would've won it all on those same teams.

ESPN has REALLY sucked lately. I get that they always have but especially as of late, it's been egregious.

He was great with the WRs in Atlanta. He held that job through multiple OCs and HCs. He worked under Mularkey in Atlanta, and clearly Mularkey believes he can do the job.

And I was at the friggin game that put them in the Super Bowl. The most frustrating day as an NFL fan was that AFC Title game beatdown in Jacksonville. After the Jags demolished Marino and the Dolphins the prior week (I was also there) 62-7 I thought for sure we were Super Bowl bound.

Nobody gave us a chance in that game. Everyone just said there's no way they can beat the Jags three times in the same season...

Sucks we fell short, but that wasn't even close to the most devastating of losses. Both Divisional round losses to the Ravens were the worst I've witnessed. Road to the Super Bowl goes through Nashville and we let that murderer come in here and steal our glory not once, but twice.
