He isn't a good Head Coach. He isn't a good GM (he's been doing this job all year for the most part). He has mortgaged the future of the Texans and yeah, he wins some regular season games, but his play-calling is abysmal.

That team is too talented to waste under O'Brien for a couple more seasons.

Relatively weak coaching carousel this year and I dunno who the Texans could promote from within. Not saying O'Brien is the answer, but I kinda get the reluctance to part ways.

True, but someone else can always do just as bad, so why not try? KC's OC, SF's DC, college coaches, etc. Hell, get Jim Caldwell, if you want.

Furthermore, they could have definitely hired a legitimate GM, instead of having 3-4 people doing it and then giving it to O'Brien himself.

I agree as you kind of already know what you are getting with O'Brien and not much of it good.
