They are low on cap space. Jimmy G will be getting ~$26mil next season. SF can save most of that by gettng rid of him.
Then there the Mahomes contract. Oh man, how much do you pay a guy that was league MVP(and a defensive offside away from the SB) in year 1, then SB MVP in year 2? |

Start at 35 million and go up. I wouldn't be surprised if his contract tops 40.
In the end, Mahomes is a rare player. His contract will cripple you from signing big names but you can almost build a team with spare parts around him and still win. Quote:

Nice to see Andy Reid benefit from someone else's poor clock management.
I think Shanahan just lets the enormity of the moment cloud his judgment and force him to over-think what should be very simple. Still young, he'll learn. NFC's wide open though, so who knows when he'll be back. |

Granted, the Pats had already taped their SB walkthrough with that drone that was caught flying over their stadium (because that's what they do, they're cheaters, just ask that Bengals "scout"), but still. Last edited by KManX89; 02-04-2020 at 08:55 PM. |

I do think that past Super Bowl disaster messed with Shanahan's psyche late in this game. |

Too much is being made about the offensive playcalling being too conservative because of the ATL-NE Super Bowl but the Niners defense just absolutely crumbled in the fourth quarter. Gave up 3rd and 15 to let the Chiefs stay alive, dumb penalties, that last KC TD, just ugh.

I'm a little confused why people think he was too conservative. The only time would have been late in the first half, but people forget that KC was punting from mid field and they probably were hoping the 49ers would use a few timeouts so they could maybe get the ball back in good field position. A good punt would have put them inside the 10 with less than 2 minutes to go.
In the 4th quarter I thought they actually should have been more conservative and ran on second down and 5, rather than throwing what turned out to be two clock stopping incompletions. They were running the ball well. |

I don't think anyone thought the 49ers would get the #1 seed in the NFC and play in the SB before the start of the season. Most predictions had them possibly earning a playoff spot (a few even had them winning their division). One Idiot had them finishing the season with a 3-13 record, worse than last year, even with the upgrades they added during the off season
![]() Jed York had no choice but to give Shanahan and Lynch 6 yr deals so they would have time to turn this franchise around (also firing the two previous coaches after 1 yr each wasn't a good look, especially for potential HC candidates). They both did it in 3 yrs. This past season far surpassed any expectations and despite the horrendous outcome of the SB, was great to watch unfold. |

The pass rush did a really good job for KC in the last quarter. You can't just put it down to Shanahan.
The way it was going, at the time of Mahome's second int, I thought that SF were the team who would most likely score back to back and end the game right there. But KC were ruthless in that last eight minutes. Made the big play (at 3rd&15 after the challenged catch was ruled incomplete) right when it was needed against and against a great defense. |

So looks like Philly won’t have an OC. Just a bunch of guys with various neat-o titles working with the offense(Perderson). Riiiiight. Sounds like they missed out on their intended hire(s) and are applying duct tape to fix the hole.
In more uplifting news Wentz is tied with Rayne Dakota at 5th best, for ‘20 MVP. I guess Vegas likes that Philly is overhauling their medical staff for the third year in a row. |

Yeah, just running game and passing game coordinators. No OC, and Pederson still calls plays anyway. Apparently that's what SF did this past year, so hopefully we can have similar results (assuming half our roster isn't on IR by October).

Just to clarify....it was hours before anything started. It looks like 3 drunks guys got on the parade route (intended or unintended) and took off till the police used combo of spikes and vehicles to corral them. Good way to test their anti-terrorism tactics.
