Why are you rounding your numbers down? Peterson was 2 yards shy of 1300 in 2010. He averaged 0.2 less yard/carry than in 2008. Emmitt Smith carried the ball at least 360 times 4 out of his first 6 years in the league. Peterson has only had the opportunity to do that once...in 08. Chris Johnson didn't get close to 2k yards last season but that is because he had over 100 less carries. He still averaged 4.9 yards/carry. Saying his numbers are on the decline is misleading. You cant use yards/game as an argument without factoring in carries. Using yards/carry is easier and makes more sense.

Now i'm not saying Peterson is better or comparable to Emmitt. It's way too early in Peterson's career to say where he ranks all time.

In the RB debate, I think YBC (yards before contact) should be the major factor. Offensive lines make the RB, and QB's help by threatening the deep game. I really think that the RB doesn't matter half as much as the line. Look at the Patriots, they basically just throw whoever's fresh in.

Where are you getting that stat from? I googled it and came up with nothing. Your post was on the first page of results...lol. Now yards AFTER contact could be a stat to look at but I still think yards per carry and attempts are more important stats to look at.

I don't believe offensive lines "make" the running back. It certainly helps a running back to have a good offensive line but if a running back is actually any good, he will get his yards.

I don't think the Patriots just throw whoever is fresh in. Green Ellis(229) carries the bulk of the load and Woodhead(97) comes in on passing downs. Fred Taylor(43) failed and Brady(31) is the 4th leading guy on the team in carries. I think people feel like they just throw whoever in there because their running backs always seem to be mediocre compared to the rest of the team.

Now if you have a bad quarterback, then you're probably going to be running the ball more and getting more opportunities for yards. If you have a good quarterback, you're probably going to get more opportunities for yards because the defense has to account for the passing game. So its not really a big deal. A good running back will get his yards either way.

now to try this in english.

If there is NO deal by July 15th, they'll probably just wipe out the first 8 games as it'll be too late to start Pre-Season, and get camps running "fully"

It's not a true stat as far as I know. They don't record it. But if you used to watch Emmitt Smith on the Cowboys you would know his yards per carry was good because he get far most of the time before they even touched him.

I will admit there are some exceptions and Peterson is one of them, he will wait for a hole but he will also pound it if things are collapsing. And he's dynamite after contact in the open field. He just won't break a lot of records because the amount of contact involved with him on that team. I can only see him lasting 4-5 more years MAX.

I hear you on wanting to see the rookies. I was ecstatic that Baltimore was able to get Jimmy and Torrey Smith. I've heard good things about Tandon Doss and Jah Reid also but I know how much teams like to talk about every single draft pick like he has potential to be a starter someday. Not that Ozzie Newsome hasn't found some good players in the middle of the draft

Anybody watching the Top 100 Players deal on NFL Network? Those queers put Aaron Rodgers at 11! 11!!! Nobody did more last season to help their teams win than ARodg. Look at his playoff numbers. For a quarterback, just statistically, it's the best or second best ever. Throw in wins in the same post season it definitely is number 1. Crackheads.

I've been watching it the past however many weeks its been on. Apparently this list is based on player voting and its supposed to be the top players of 2011 but it seems like they didn't explain that well enough to the players when they were voting. People on NFL Network like Willie McGinest talk about the picks after they have been made, and even some of those guys don't seem to understand that this is for 2011, even with the banner behind them that clearly says "Top 100 Players of 2011". It's a dumb list. I wouldn't be surprised if Manning is #1.

I know Ed Reed and Ray Lewis are the remaining Ravens that will be in the top 10. I do love Ray Lewis, but he is no longer a top 10 player in the league.

They appear to be putting longevity in past performance as a key factor so that why brady, manning, bress are ahead of rogers as theyve all put up stats for a longer period of time in years than rogers so far.

As konfusion mentioned they werent very clear in telling the players what factors to put into the rankings so that is confusing things up.

Torrey's awesome again coming from a UMD system where they rely on gifts rather than coaching I think it'll take him some time same as Vernon Davis had to basically learn the position from a real coach... So I still think him and HeyBey can be elite WRs.

Some people believe he is capable of overtaking Derrick Mason as the #2 WR at some point this coming season. I am not one of those people. He has very little competition for the #3 job so I believe he gets that this season. Baltimore was in desperate need of a deep threat and I think they've found it.

I do believe Jimmy Smith has the potential to start this season. I think the only thing that could keep him from that is not being with the team during the lockout.

It's amazing to me that when people talk about Brady and Patriots they use the "they just win" argument. They haven't won since the '04 season!!! Since then, Peyton's won one, gotten himself as many MVP's , more yards, less pics. Oy! That's me going with the body of work argument NFL Network seems to basing this list off of. I feel stupid though...for taking this dumb ass list as seriously as they intended it to be. If it were a real list, there would be no question who number 1 should be.

Adrian Peterson number #3! The list does not mean squat but it is nice to see Adrian in the top 3!
