Today Jaguars QB David Garrard was carted off the field today during practice. Seems to be a nagging back injury from last year. Not sure if it's really severe, but it doesn't look good for us Jaguar fans.

Is it time for the Blaine Gabbert era to begin in Jacksonville?

I'm excited for our Rookie QB who's been impressive during practice, but I was going to give Garrard one more chance.

If Garrard gets healthy I'm sure he's the guy for now. But it wouldn't surprise me if Gabbert ends up starting before season end. Garrard is still a decent QB but very inconsistent. I still think Gabbert is the best QB from this year's draft. Jags were lucky he fell in their lap.

Because Gabbert was picked at a Redskins pick, and he isn't on our team he will be the next Peyton Manning.

With teams having to be under the salary cap by 4:00 Eastern today some teams have some work to do. The Steelers may be under the cap after signing franchise player LaMarr Woodley to a six-year, $61.5 million deal. It's not known how much is guaranteed, but he'll make $18.1 million in his first year and $27 million over the first two years of the deal.

In Dallas the Cowboys are $6.6 million over the cap but they've restructured DeMarcus Ware's contract, which could reportedly save them $5.4 million in cap room this season.

Also, the Jaguars have signed franchise player Marcedes Lewis to a five-year deal worth slightly less than $35 million and just under $18 million guaranteed. The Jaguars were already $28 million under the cap.

Braylon Edwards signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the 49ers. Edwards likely thought he was going to cash in after a solid couple of seasons with the Jets but there weren't many teams interested in him, and he certainly didn't help his cause with a guilty drunk driving plea and possible involvement during an altercation in Michigan earlier this week. It's a solid signing by the 49ers with Michael Crabtree injured once again.

Steelers signed OLB LaMarr Woodley to a six-year, $61.5 million contract.
Woodley will make a staggering $18.1 million in 2011, and $27 million over the first two years. The contract makes him the second highest-paid Steeler of all time, behind Ben Roethlisberger. Woodley, who won't be 27 until November, has racked up 35 sacks over the last three seasons as the prototypical outside linebacker in Dick LeBeau's 3-4 scheme. He was previously set to play this season on a one-year tender as the team's franchise player.

Braylon Edwards deal is not near as good as the $3.5 million it was reported as. First, it has no guaranteed money, so they could cut him if they have any problems with him in camp or if he has any legal problems. In addition his base salary is only $1 million, and he'll only get the $3.5 million if he catches 90 passes and makes the Pro Bowl. I just have trouble believing the Jets wouldn't have given him that deal. He played well for them last year and even with the addition of Plax he'd still be valuable. I know the Jets might sign Derrick Mason but I'd take the younger Braylon over Mason.

Raiders signed TE Kevin Boss to a four-year, $16 million contract.
It's a rare quality signing for the Raiders. Although Boss isn't quite the pass-catcher that Zach Miller is, he has turned himself into an elite blocker. In Oakland, Boss will be asked to run more routes to compensate for the Raiders' unreliable receiving corps. Still only 27, Boss figures to top his previous career high of 42 catches back in 2009. There's TE2 value here.

He'd be better off elsewhere. Alex smith as starting QB almost assures he won't be catching 90 passes.

Adrian Peterson said Friday he never considered holding out of Vikings camp.
Peterson actually sounded content to play out the final year of his contract, which will pay him $10.7 million. "I'm going to sit back and let the chips fall where they may," Peterson said when asked if he wanted to be a Viking long term. The Vikings would be wise to lock Peterson up before a potentially brutal offensive line and lack of playmaking teammates frustrates him.

They'll franchise him if they don't get an extension worked out. He's valuable enough to be worth a long-term deal. It would make sense to sign him to an extension now because he's making over $10 million this year and would get more than that if he was franchised and it'd be cheaper to just sign him to a new deal now.

Also, the Cowboys had a special visitor at training camp yesterday.

The Chargers have re-signed Malcolm Floyd to a two-year contract. The Ravens were trying to sign Floyd but couldn't clear enough cap room.

Me either. I wouldn't be surprised when Del Rio puts Gabbert in. I mean, he did that in his first year and replaced Brunell for Leftwich during his rookie year.

Well deserved for Marcedes Lewis. My goal for him this year is to drop ZERO passes.

The only way for Marcedes is to drop ZERO passes is to put superglue on his gloves but seriously, he is going to drop 5 to 30 passes this year, dropping ZERO passes is unrealistic
