he was going backwards for like two tenths of a second and the ball came loose

they called forward progress too EARLY

how many times have we seen the runner get held up by 5 guys trying to strip him while moving him backwards and the refs blow the whistle after the guy gets moved 10 yards back? countless times

in this situation the second he starts to go backwards, nope, they're gonna rule forward progress that quick, Giants ball

how convenient

look at the replay, the whistle comes after the fumble, it's just the refs saving the Giants

My bad, I clearly was thinking of the wrong Manning.

ESPN had a really good point about this.

You can say the play ended because of forward progress, but if Bradshaw had spun out and gone 5 more yards there is zero chance it would have been ruled forward progress.

It's one of those rules that's selectively enforced, which makes it suspect even if it's technically correct.

My personal belief is it wouldn't have mattered anyway, the Giants Defense was too good and Smith's play/plan too poor for them to have even scored from there.

49ers fans agree with me, the 49ers should've used Gore more once it became obvious Smith wasn't throwing all that well against the Giants' defense. No idea why they chose not to, Gore was running wild against that front seven.

It's one of those rules that give the refs game deciding powers along with "can't challenge if ruled incomplete pass" like in the Broncos Steelers game

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-h...not-challenged

the ref at the top of the screen rules it incomplete even though he has a perfect view of it going backwards by 2 yards.

Although Rob Gronkowski is expected to play in the Super Bowl, he reportedly suffered ligament damage to his ankle in the AFC Championship game.
All sprains damage the ligament to varying degrees, so it may still be minor. Gronk has two weeks of the finest medical care available, though there's still a good chance he won't be working at full capacity in the Super Bowl. Coach Bill Belichick was predictably unforthcoming when asked about Gronk's condition, offering only, "We'll see how it goes with Rob ... when we get back on the field. It's hard to gauge injuries."

If rumors are true and the Raiders are close to signing Broncos D coordinator Dennis Allen, then i couldnt be happier that we went with a defensive mind, we could sure use some help on defense... Although, he has a lot of work to do here, we only had one of the worst defenses in the NFL .. Our offense will be fine, with our WR Core & more time playing with Palmer, I can see us having a top 10 offense next year!! I wonder what we do with Bush

I can't imagine they'll be able to afford Bush. The Raiders already have the highest payroll for next season and are $16 million above the projected salary cap. They'll obviously get under that with releases and restructuring of contracts but I can't see them being able to afford any big money players and I could see a team like the Bengals or Browns offering Bush a big enough contract that the Raiders can't match.

You cant go by the whistle....the whistle is on a delay cause the ref doesnt blow it exactly at the same precise time cause he isnt a robot.

Its like how when the 40 second play clock hits :00 there is that almost half a second delay yet that the qb still has to snap the ball until delay of game exactly gets called.

Field goals... lots and lots of field goal attempts. When you're paying your kickers over $7 mill/year you might as well put them to use.

Oakland Raiders head coaches since 2000...

Hue Jackson
Tom Cable
Lane Kiffin
Art Shell
Norv Turner
Bill Callahan
Jon Gruden

Based on the past decade I'd expect him to last about a season and a half.
