Ellerbe, Krueger, Pollard, Boldin all gone. It's like winning the Super Bowl and immediately going into rebuilding mode because we overpaid our QB.

They did not lose those players because of Flacco. The Ravens and Ozzie always stress right player and right price. They would not have paid Ellerbe and Kruger close to what they got from the Dolphins and Browns. I do not blame them for leaving, they won a ring and in the NFL you have only so many chances to cash in.

Pollard was a big time tackler but he was not the best against the pass and that is where the league has been going. Boldin is nearing the end of his career. It does not seem like the Ravens were planning on keeping him beyond next season since they only asked him to take a pay cut and there was no talk of extending his contract and lowering his cap hit for 2013.

I am sad to see these players that were a big part of winning the Super Bowl leave, but this is how the Ravens have done business every year. Ozzie would not be making these moves if he did not have some sort of plan.

Mendenhall to Cardinals

Cardinals agreed to terms with RB Rashard Mendenhall, formerly of the Steelers, on a one-year contract.

The addition throws a wrench into Ryan Williams' 2013 fantasy football outlook, though the two young backs will likely wage a camp battle. Cardinals coach Bruce Arians believes in true feature backs as opposed to committees, evidenced by his Mendenhall usage in Pittsburgh and Vick Ballard in Indy last year. Mendenhall is only 26 years old, and will be a full season removed from his ACL tear in 2013. Once compared to Edgerrin James by Arians, Mendenhall will probably shape up as a middle-round fantasy pick behind a weak Arizona offensive line.

I can't believe the Dolphins were desperate enough that they felt they had no choice but to overpay for an average receiver. His numbers have dropped off every year since the 2010 season. For a player entering his 5th year he is still a work in progress. He is fast, but over time that aspect of his game will fade. He is needs to improve his route running ability and his hand eye coordination. He dropped a ton of balls the last two years. Mike was more worried about getting paid last year, and his game took a major step back because of it. I don't think he will even come close to living up to that contract, but I guess only time will tell.

* On a side note, I thought yesterday was a huge "overpay" fest. When guys like Kruger are getting 5 year deals for 40M, you know that the system is flawed.

Pro Football Talk is also suggesting Reed isn't returning because the Ravens have no interest. All their LBs and Ss are leaving...

They are also suggesting this report may explain their moves...

When the Baltimore Ravens showed up for work on Halloween morning, coach John Harbaugh presented them with a piece of news that was the football equivalent of passing out parched apple slices to trick-or-treaters: The Ravens would be practicing in full pads later that afternoon.
Groans filled the auditorium at the team's training facility. October had been a rough month for Baltimore, which 10 days earlier had suffered a 43-13 defeat to the Houston Texans — the most lopsided loss in Harbaugh's five seasons as coach — before taking a bye-week break. The Ravens' most respected leader, legendary linebacker Ray Lewis, was back at home in Florida, having suffered a torn triceps on Oct. 14 that seemed destined to end his season.
Practicing in pads did not go over well with some of Baltimore's other veterans, including safeties Ed Reed and Bernard Pollard, and several of them openly challenged Harbaugh's edict. Rather than squashing the mini-uprising, the coach welcomed the dialogue and solicited additional criticism. Soon, the meeting turned surreal, as the subject shifted to Harbaugh's treatment of his players and perceived mood swings.

"It was practically a mutiny," one Ravens player recalled. "It came very close to getting out of control. But the way Coach Harbaugh handled it was amazing. He let people have their say, and he listened, and he explained himself, and pretty soon it was like a big group-therapy session. In the end, a lot of positive things were said. We didn't practice in pads, but we came out of there stronger as a group."

I'm fine with the Pats letting Welker go as long as they end up with Amendola (and preferably keep Edelman as well), but I really don't want Welker to end up catching passes from Peyton Manning. That just seems wrong to me for some reason.

Well good luck to Harbaugh keeping what's left of Baltimore motivated without Ray Lewis. I couldn't stand Lewis but he definately kept the guys aroudn him motivated.

Lions made another signing

Lions agreed to terms with S Glover Quin, formerly of the Texans.

Detroit continues to rake 'em in on Wednesday. Quin will replace free agent Louis Delmas in the Lions' defensive backfield, but he can also play some corner. Quin struggles in coverage a bit, but he's an above-average run defender. It's a tough loss for Houston, who wanted him back badly. Detroit has now inked Quin and cornerback Chris Houston to help shore up the back end.

Also Bucs signed Goldson

Buccaneers agreed to terms with FS Dashon Goldson on a five-year contract.

They'll pair him with 2012 first-rounder Mark Barron in what could amount to the NFL's most imposing safety tandem east of Seattle. Goldson, 28, is a big hitter in the run game but perhaps at his finest in coverage, where he'll man "center field" in Tampa as Barron patrols the box. Goldson has 14 interceptions, five forced fumbles, and three sacks over the past four seasons in San Francisco. The Bucs still must upgrade their pass rush and cornerback depth chart, but their defense is trending in the right direction.

Anquan Boldin was probably that guy on offense, throw in a possible Super Bowl hang-over and a rising AFC North and the Ravens may be a borderline play-off team next year.

You guys underestimate Ray Rice ill bet hes good at keeping the guys motivated not 1x did I hear of him complaining that his role was reduced last year under Cameron.

Borderline playoff team? They went 10-6 last season with guys like Boldin, Reed, Lewis, etc. You really think they'll win 8 or 9 games with just Flacco? Probably more like 6-10.
