the move prevents the Patriots from ever recovering a penny of the $12.5 million signing bonus from his 2012 contract extension worth a total of $39 million. It remains to be seen whether the Patriots will try to avoid paying $3.25 million in a deferred payment due on March 31, 2014, and whether they’ll try to wipe out base-salary guaranteed of $1.323 million in 2013 and $1.137 million in 2014.
They are now on the hook for that contract and it does count against the cap.

I know that, and it's true. I was referring to the evidence that we do already know.

I know the Lions recovered the money given to Charles Rodgers so it is possible they will get some of that cash back, as well they should.

I believe they would be forced to disclose the information if they were served a subpena, no matter the circumstances. Lawyer/Doctor confidentiality is a bit difference unless it involves death/possible death or other life endangering circumstances.

Ravens will put in a claim for Hernandez.

They won two Super Bowls at the hand of a murderer. Why not add another one now that their team is murderer-free?

Hernandez was apparently a loaner in Pats locker room and did not hang or associate with his teammates he preferred to associate with those from his old Neighborhood. Apparently he also threatened Wes Welker on his first day of work lol.

Quote:
Stories continue to accumulate about the signs in Aaron Hernandez’s background, stories that paint a more complete if complicated picture about his character.

And according to the Boston Globe, he flashed a temper and made threats to one of the Patriots’ respected veterans within days of arriving for work.

In an anecdote near the bottom of a longer report, it was mentioned that Hernandez was at the team facility trying to watch film, when he grew frustrated at not being able to operate the equipment. Wide receiver Wes Welker walked by, Hernandez asked for help, and Welker replied: “Rookie, you figure it out.”

According to the report, Hernandez “responded with expletives.”

The Globe being a family publication, didn’t expound, but one of their reporters did on Twitter.

According to Shalise Manza Young, Hernandez’s reply was “f— you Wes, I’ll f— you up!“

While rookies getting their backs up with veterans is not an uncommon act, the threat within a few days of being drafted was unusual, and as was noted, it was not said in a joking manner.

It was also reported in the newspaper that Hernandez spent “little, if any time with his Patriots teammates off the field,” preferring to surround himself with friends from his old neighborhood.

Taken on its own, the story might not be that big of a deal, especially within the legal context of “innocent until proven guilty.”

But coupled with everything else we’ve learned about Hernandez this week, it adds to the pile of anecdotal evidence which is becoming harder to ignore.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk was just on the Dan Patrick Show and he said by releasing Hernandez now it will be very difficult if not impossible for the Patriots to get any money back from Hernandez. Since the release occurred after June 1 Hernandez will have a $7.5 million cap number in 2014. From the sounds of it the Pats wanted to disassociate themselves from Hernandez bad enough that they were willing to take the cap hit and lose the ability to recover money (and cap space).

Fate cant argue the intelligence of wanting to do this now. Dunno why they just didn't tag him and place him on a list and see what happens. I am sure they did there due diligence and consulted with the league as to the rules and options over the past few weeks. If its one thing we know about the Patriots they are not a stupid organization when it comes to personal. I do wonder after this if they will call Randy Moss back.

this is just one case where they value the Patriots brand over the money
it's just good long term planning, they take some cap hits for 2014 and what not but they keep the team name out of headlines

instead of "Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez goes to court" in big and bold, you get one line in the bottom of the article mentioning the pats released him a while ago

some other teams would wait the entire thing out

Hernandez will be signed by the Raiders or the Bengals if he gets out of this without major prison time. I'd say the Cowboys but they have Jason Witten and they seem pretty high on Hanna and Escobar.

Not sure why people would think the Raiders would give him a chance, Al is not around anymore, with new management we wouldnt even give him a tryout, we just cut a felon, why would be add another ... Compared to other teams I bet you Raiders are pretty low on the list of players arrested or in trouble with the law in the past 10 years...

What a fail for Hernandez, there goes the Pats 2 TE offense... and with Gronk always injured, better hope Ballards knee's will hold up or that offense in trouble...

When talking about "cleaning company" it may well not even be a legit company. A lot of rich people just hire a Hispanic person off the street to do that sort of work.

Well I've never known anyone who intentionally destroyed their home security system, cellphone and had their home scrubbed clean the same day a murder of an acquaintance happened a mile away.

Depending on who is throwing the punch or who is taking it?

Absolutely.
