rounding up the plot lines and the he said she said

Dolphins players standing up for Incognito rather than Martin
it's a bad locker room that lacks leadership
they really didn't know there was a problem
all they just care about football and they hate the distraction
it is being overblown
Martin didn't let Philbin or others know about any issues
coaches told incognito to toughen martin up
it's not considered bullying in the nfl
incognito is a racist
incognito and martin are polar opposite personalities
snitching is the biggest locker room sin
it is a ploy by Martin and his lawyer parents to exit the league with a payday
Dolphins are being bullied by the media

yeah this story is going to be a major headline the rest of the season, maybe be the story of the season

could be bullygate by the time it's over

So according to Dolphins players you qualify as being black if you have a black friend? Whoohoo! I happen to have a black friend, so I guess I'm in the club.

Florida teams are 4-20 for the year and strangely enough the least amount of drama seems to be from the worst of the three teams - Jacksonville, since everyone expected the Jags to suck from day 1.

Seriously. You really think anybody believes that nonsense given everything that's happened over the last week?

I have almost never gotten along with my little brother, it was worse when he was a child though, just because you're siblings doesn't mean you're close.

But you are ACTUALLY brothers. Do you have somebody that you verbally and mentally harass to the point that they leave the situation completely that people view as your "little brother" and "best friend on the team"?

Football is a violent sport...you are 6'5" 315 pounds and cant watch your own back, yet you are expected to watch the QB'?! Martin is finished in the NFL, Incognito is finished and HOPEFULLY Ireland and Philbin are done.

This attitude is so wrong. Why can't a non-violent/anti-confrontational person in their personal life still be a football player? Last I checked football is a game.

You'd fit right in in the Dolphins locker room though, congratulations.

This whole story is a referendum on bullying. Is it any wonder that people being bullied often feel they have no where to turn? Talk to people who ignore you or tell you "buck up" or "Stand up for yourself" or even "Just ignore it". Like that really works. Tell someone in authority and you get called a snitch and shunned, and people rally around the bully. And when the truth comes out people take the "Oh, they weren't serious, they didn't REALLY want to hurt" you line of BS.

This situation is public, but this same crap happens all over the place.

Former Dolphin offensive lineman Lydon Murtha has written a story on themmqb.com defending Richie Incognito. Murtha was with the Dolphins from 2009 through the 2012 preseason so he spent some time with the team once Martin was drafted. He also explains the circumstances of the Vegas trip that Martin paid for but didn't attend:

Quote:
Every year, as tradition, the offensive line goes on a big Vegas trip. Everything is paid for in advance, from hotels to a private jet to show tickets. Martin originally verbally committed to the trip, then later backed out after everything was booked. Now, if you can’t go because of an emergency then it’s okay, but to say you’re going and then decide you don’t want to spend the money later? Everything was paid for, and then when it was time to pay up he didn’t want to go anymore. You don’t do that to your brothers. The veterans who paid for it, including Incognito and others, asked for Martin’s share, and he gave it to them. End of story.
He also put a lot of the blame for the situation on the coaches:

Quote:
Incognito was made a scapegoat for the hell coming down on the Dolphins organization, which in turn said it knew nothing about any so-called hazing. That’s the most outlandish lie of this whole thing. The coaches know everything. The coaches know who’s getting picked on and in many cases call for that player to be singled out. Any type of denial on that side is ridiculous. I have friends on more than a dozen teams, and it’s the same everywhere. What people want to call bullying is something that is never going away from football. This is a game of high testosterone, with men hammering their bodies on a daily basis. You are taught to be an aggressive person, and you typically do not make it to the NFL if you are a passive person. There are a few, but it’s very hard. Playing football is a man’s job, and if there’s any weak link, it gets weeded out. It’s the leaders’ job on the team to take care of it.

SMH on this entire story. That's all I have to say because we probably discussed this topic for like 2 hours at work yesterday.

This type of behavior is unacceptable in the NFL, on Wall Street, in the Armed Forces, in schools, and in reality everywhere. Incognito is completely wrong, and Martin ultimately did the right thing. This story ended as best as possible and not with Incognito or Martin in a body bag, which is the case in many of these type of stories.

Yeah the thing sounds a lot like bountygate to me

Its tradition but someone took it a little too far and there's audio evidence so now its a big story and they're gonna be careful on hazing going forward

Another thing in this Miami saga that stands out for me is the absurd lifestyle these guys live. You have players taking $15k private flights to Vegas, rookies picking up $30k+ dinner tabs (when some make <$500k a year), etc. This is exactly why the majority of pro athletes go bankrupt. They behave as if they're going to make million dollar paychecks until they're 60 when the average NFL career is something like 4 seasons. The 30 For 30 documentary called Broke delves into this.

That's what I don't get. We already knew about the mild hazing, like making rookies carry players pads and picking up dinner tabs. That stuff is mild and I'd hardly consider it bullying. But what I don't get is why other players are defending Incognito. The stuff he did borders on hate crimes, which I doubt it usual with the the whole rookie hazing thing.

I don't get it either. Martin clearly wasn't very popular in the locker room, and the players didn't have much respect for him. But the things Incognito said to him were dehumanizing.

I was wrong, Martin won't be back with the team after all...

So, if I understand correctly, if you're a murderer, you are welcomed back in an NFL locker room with arms wide open, but if you're soft and thin-skinned, you're screwed?

If you're not a bad boy, you can't be part of the fraternity or brotherhood that is an NFL locker room?

Footbal players are odd, 80% of them are dumb as f*ck anyway...

Jeff Ireland is another of those Bill Parcells coaching tree idiots, they have a rather...unique sense of what's right and wrong.

What a slate of "prime time" games for this NFL coming up. How did Minnesota land so many prime time games this season? This is the 3rd or 4th prime time game for them this season...

Tonight: Washington @ Minnesota
MNF: Miami @ Tampa Bay

That Florida powerhouse showdown, should be the game of the week, especially with all the drama in both Miami and Tampa Bay.
