Of course they do. Any action, does. Are you suggesting that how professional athletes conduct themselves does not bleed down to younger players? As someone said earlier, athletes shouldn't be role models, but it doesn't change the fact that they are.

Don't call a 9ers fan a bandwagoner:

Quote:
Two men were shot at the close of Sunday's NFC championship. According to the Fresno Bee, Amado Vargas, 39, "was described as a 'new' 49ers fan and was being taunted by people in the house." He allegedly grabbed a knife, had it wrestled away, then retrieved a gun from a safe.

"Alcohol was obviously a factor, and they started giving him a hard time after the loss of the 49ers. He took it personal, grabbed a knife, which then escalated to him grabbing a gun and firing rounds within the residence," said Sgt. Kevin Lolkus with the Fresno County Sheriff's Office.

Two men were treated for leg wounds, and Vargas was arrested upon arriving at the hospital with a stab wound. He's charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Deadspin offered up 3 alternatives to removing the PAT. I think #1 would be fun, but #3 would be AMAZING.

Quote:
Take a page from rugby. The PAT is already a holdover from the "conversion," worth two points in rugby (the NFL rulebook still calls it a "try"). So why not adopt rugby's practice of taking the kick not from between the hash marks, but from wherever the touchdown was scored? If a team crosses the goal line just in-bounds, force them to take the PAT from the two-yard line at that spot; the angle will be sharp and the target smaller.

Move the line of scrimmage back. The linked chart above shows the success rate for 30-39 yard field goals to be just under 90 percent, or about as easy as the PAT was in the 1970s. If teams have to convert the extra point from the 20 or the 25, instead of the 2, it'll no longer be a given.

Make the player who scored the touchdown kick the PAT. My personal favorite, because chaos. Marshawn Lynch ran the ball in for six points? He's got to get the seventh too. This will never happen, because you can just picture Peyton Manning tearing a quad attempting a placekick, but I very badly want it to, if just for the occasional offensive lineman touchdown.

This is also why we NEED the PAT:

If the NFL gets rid of the extra point they won't do anything inventive to replace it, they'll make touchdowns worth 7 or teams will have the option to take 6 and go for a 2-point conversion. I'd love to see them do something to make it more difficult, even something like moving the kick back to like the 20-yard line so a conversion would be a 37-yard kick, but the NFL is not that creative.

They should also give an option for like a 3 pt conversion if you kick a 55-yd FG or something

The 1st weather forecast is out for super sunday.

High 35 with 35% chance of some precip & 15mph wind.

Not the best but does avoid the 2 biggest worries of a blizzard or bitter cold.

Long range forecasts are hard to predict for precip but for temps they can get rather accurate.

I'm suggesting that if society has issues with how an athlete behaves in a 17-second interview where he didn't commit a crime or even swear, that's on society. Parents allow their kids to watch hockey, and that fight from a couple of nights ago has barely made a blip. Granted, some of that has to due with the NFL's popularity.

It's the teeth-gnashing of it all. Sherman, at worst, showed poor sportsmanship. Hardly the stuff to keep anyone up at night.

Broncos wont score alot on hawks defense & hawks offense doesnt score alot either.
Factor in the weather.
+ the last 10 super bowls were all only a 7 pt or less game in the 4th qtr.

I was also talking about his poor sportsmanship, showing up Crabtree immediately after the play. Also the whole ME ME ME attitude. But I agree with you, it's not something I'd lose sleep over. I just don't like the guy and what he represents.

I'd rather talk about the extra point. I am very curious t see what options they come up with.

The NFL is going with opera singer Renee Fleming as the national anthem singer at the Super Bowl. This is quite the change for the league, as they usually go with a big name singing star.

The pro bowl is about he dumbest thing ever. Send the good guys to Hawaii no problems there, ... Then film the beach party. Maybe have them (or their girlfriends) play beach volleyball or something.

Or,... make it flag football so the players can get a little into the game.... Pro Bowl is so silly... I can't watch it.

Let us all, on the eve of possibly doing away with the extra point, take a shot in memory of John Carney.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell doesn't expect the playoffs to be expanded before the 2015 season.
"I would be surprised if it happens this year," Goodell said Tuesday. "I think if it happened it probably wouldn’t happen before ’15." Goodell also said the league would consider playing Monday and Friday night playoff games under an expanded format. Whether it's this year or next, it now appears all but certain that the playoff field will be expanded to seven teams in each conference. That means only one team in each league would earn a first-round bye.

One of Siskel's movie review questions was "Is this more entertaining than watching the same people sit around and have a conversation?"

I think the Pro Bowl fails that question.

I thought that whole Sherman ordeal was hilarious. Me and my friends couldn't stop laughing our asses off. I like it though, it's more entertaining (especially considering the Seahawks/49ers rivalry) than players saying "it was a team effort, the 49ers played their heart out. Can't wait for the Super Bowl". It gives you something to look forward to next season when the hawks face the niners.

The Pro Bowl may be dumb but it still gets big ratings. It will definitely win the demo Sunday night and will finish the week as a top 5 program. As long as everyone's making money the game will keep being played.
