5 for 70 means nothing. The guaranteed money and signing bonus are the important factors.

I'm curious how the Marshawn Lynch holdout is going to end. Lynch wants a new contract, but the Seahawks reportedly aren't even considering giving him a new deal. Per ESPN's John Clayton here's the fines Lynch has accumulated to date and how much more Lynch could be fined:

Quote:
Lynch is incurring fines of $30,000 a day for each day he holds out. It’s up to the team’s discretion how they count those days, but camp officially started last Thursday. If the team counts the player’s off day Monday, Tuesday will be the sixth day of training camp.

Starting with the sixth day, a player is subject to losing 15 percent of his signing bonus. For Lynch, that’s $900,000. He was paid a $6 million bonus when he signed his four-year contract in 2012.

For each day he continues to hold out going forward, he can lose another 1 percent of his signing bonus ($60,000) for up to 25 percent of the total bonus. So if Lynch held out an additional 10 days, starting with Day 6 of camp, he would forfeit $1.5 million of his signing bonus.

Also, Lynch will lose one regular-season paycheck for each preseason game he misses -- not a preseason game check, a regular season check. For Lynch, that’s $312,500 lost for each preseason game he misses.

If he holds out for all four preseason games, Lynch would lose $1.25 million in regular-season game checks.
With Lynch unlikely to get a new deal the question becomes whether the team will actually collect those fines when Lynch eventually shows up. When Maurice Jones-Drew unsuccessfully held out in 2012 he accumulated $1.6 million in fines, but there were reports the team only ended up fining him half that amount (to my knowledge it was never confirmed how much MJD was truly fined).

That's interesting. I never knew when a player held out during preseason games, they get fined as if it were a regular season game check. Is that something new?
Also, say Lynch held out the entire season, would the 16 game checks be slightly lower to make up for the the 4 preseason games? That would be, technically, 20 games missed...again IF he held out the entire season.

Crap, I have to redo the poll. I forgot to check the box option where you can view exactly what team that member voted for. I'll get that up here shortly.

It's an interesting poll question. Seattle and Denver play in week 3 so 1 of those teams (barring an unlikely tie) will have a loss early. New England has a tough opening slate with 4 of their first 6 on the road and a home game against Cincy, and I can't see them escaping that slate unbeaten. Kansas City and Indy play at Denver in the first 2 weeks, and it's tough to win at Denver. San Francisco doesn't have a terribly hard early schedule outside a season opener at Dallas, so I could see them starting 6-0 heading into a Sunday night game at Denver. I just don't see a team with a record like 10-0, but at the same time I would never have guessed the Chiefs would open 9-0 last year.

I thought there might be a limit on how many poll options you can list. That's cool. I'm okay either way, as it's still fun.

The current high bid for the Bills is currently at $1.3 billion. A bit steep for my pockets.

I know that's a pretty tough road trip early...but I'm a fan, so I've got my blinders on!

One of the few bills I, actually, enjoy paying: NFL Sunday Ticket, will be arriving in the mail any day now...so I'm excited no matter how good/bad my boys do, since I'll be locked on the Game Mix channel, every Sunday from 1pm-7pm

This was one of the most pointless, ill-advised holdouts I've ever seen. Lynch had literally zero leverage on Seattle. The Seahawks had no reason to give in and it's no surprise Lynch failed.
