If nothing else, I’m hoping for a little more speed when it comes to throwing the flag and making a decision and not wasting 2-3 min. on each call only to get it wrong.

And def. not throwing the flag AFTER the play is already over.

yeah that i agree with you there no argument here from me on any of that. as much as it sucked I just think we all should be happy we had some semblance of football thanks to these guys cause without them the season would have not started.

Yeah, it was football for 3 weeks….if anything, it helped us appreciate the job the real ref’s do every week.

Plus 1, they will still make mistakes, but no where close to how bad these replacement refs were, thank god there back...

they already have.

there's numerous articles about games from the 1990's (and earlier) where refs (err, "regular refs") made terrible calls that decided games.

hell, just a few years ago that really buff ref called that play against Denver wrong and cost them the game. that could maybe be looked at as worse than the Seatle / GB call because the ref in the Denver game WAS FIVE FEET AWAY.

Lance Easley -- the NFL replacement ref who made the TD call in Monday night's Packers vs. Seahawks game tells TMZ ... he stands by his decision, adamantly saying, "It was the correct call."

Easley told us he can't believe he's being vilified ... "I didn't do anything wrong."

He says strongly ... the Packers player who allegedly intercepted the ball never had singular possession because, "You have to not only have the ball but have either 2 feet or a body part on the ground, and that never happened."

Easley says this was clearly a case of simultaneous possession -- meaning the catch goes to the offensive player -- adding, "Put any other official who knows the rules and they would make the same call."

Easley told us, no one has ever seen a play like this before, so there's no point of reference to judge the call. He says, "I don't appreciate the negative stuff."

Easley says he feels like he's become a sacrificial lamb, who had to "fall on the sword."

Easley -- who refs at El Camino and Pierce Junior Colleges as well as Occidental, all in Southern California -- says the replacement refs did what they were expected to do.

"We did a damn good job ... for the most part."

Why does everyone seem to think just cause the real refs are back no call or play will ever be wrong They'll make mistakes, but at least we know it isn't a free-for-all out there.

I bet the ratings tonight will be MASSIVE just to see how the refs will do.

I don't think anyone thinks this. It's that the regular refs won't take long to make a call whether it's right or wrong. There is also the perception that every call the replacement refs was bad just because they were replacement refs and everyone had extra focus on every call they made. That wasn't the case with the regular refs but I do feel like there may be extra scrutiny for a little while to see if the regular refs are screwing up just as much as the replacement refs now that the replacement refs have been under such a microscope.

Even worse than that, even when the guy lands Tate doesn't have control of the ball...he has control of Jenkins.

I guess catching a player with the ball really does count as catching the ball.

And Gene Steratore cost the Miami Dolphins a game 4 years ago. So I hope he gets replaced.

I just think that people used the replacement refs as a scapegoat for many issues. The handling of the game was bad, but the penalty calls were the same. The reviews were the same (heck, they were done by regular refs). But suddenly "omg, the replacements are deciding games! we need the real guys back".... but, ya know, they've done the same thing for years. And often way worse (like Ed Hochuli in the San Diego/Denver game several years back).

The issue is that in three games the replacement refs were screwing up left and right. The real refs make mistakes (they are human), but not at the volume of the real refs. And also the game pacing was abysmal under the scabs.
