The NFL Was Completely Fine With “Smash-For-Cash” Bounty Programs 16 Years Ago [Updated With Video]

The filing is below, with the good stuff on Page 8. In January of 1996, ESPN aired a segment on a Packers bounty program administered by Reggie White. "Smash-for-Cash" paid out $500 for big hits, and was originally funded by the entire team, but had paid out so much by the playoffs that White and DE Sean Jones contributed to keep it going.

The ESPN report also cited similar programs around the league, including one in Philadelphia that Troy Vincent was more than happy to discuss on camera. The most damning thing in the segment was the response, from an unnamed NFL spokesman:

"The 'Smash-for-Cash' program is within the rules as long as players use their own monies, the amounts are not exorbitant, and the payments are not for illegal hits."

And at one time dichloro diphenyl trichloroethane was an approved chemical I'd have been far more shocked if that said 5 years ago... But 16! I mean google had just been developed, intel launched p6 (so pentium 1 lol), and internet explorer was on 3.0 lots changed since then.

Ravens activated Terrell Suggs (Achilles) off the PUP list, and he will play on Sunday in Houston.
It's a surprising development, as many in the football universe thought that the Ravens would hold Suggs out through the team's Week 8 bye. Baltimore cut 2010 second-round pick Sergio Kindle to make room on the 53-man roster. ESPN's Adam Schefter nailed the Suggs news from the jump. Suggs will look to energize a Baltimore pass rush that has recorded just 10 sacks on the season and a defense that just lost Ray Lewis and Lardarius Webb for the season.

Just find a stream online, that's how I watch the Bills most weeks. Since I can't have DirecTV (I live in the woods), that's my only way to watch out of market games for the NFL.

That's what I do, but that blows compared to watching it in high def on my 46"

Oh I completely agree, but it's our only choice.

I wish Sunday Ticket would expand past DirecTV.

You can get it through a ps3 now (this is the 2nd season with that option).

XBox is better when you're playing games. If you want to do anything else, PS3 wins. It's why I bought one earlier this year.

All I do with Xbox is play games, I don't use any of the other features. I think their online gaming layout is spectacular.
