I am as well. It seems like any other time something like this happens, all the networks cover it nonstop. Maybe there will be more on it later.

I'm guessing a lot has to do with the college games today and not having a confirmed identity for a couple of hours. You'd hate to report on the wrong player.

I mean NFLn is scrolling his name... WHo wants to watch soundFX with that kind of story. I get why they wouldn't turn off a big time college game, but NFLN or college gameday can't get the boot for it just weird.

Early Saturday morning, 25-year old Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher shot and killed his 22-year-old girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, at a house near the team's facility on Saturday morning. The couple had a two-month-old daughter.

Police told the Kansas City Star that Belcher and Perkins got into an argument at approximately 7:00 a.m. Saturday. Belcher shot Perkins multiple times. She was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead there.

After the shooting, Belcher drove to a location near the team's main campus and took his own life. Members of the team's staff tried to stop Belcher from committing any other acts of violence before the player turned a gun on himself. The Chiefs' Arrowhead practice facility was evacuated and on police lockdown.

Perkins' mother called police after witnessing the incident and told them that her daughter had been shot. Police arrived at the Chiefs' facility only to find Belcher in the parking lot with a gun to his head. As one officer got out of his car, he heard a gunshot. Belcher was later pronounced dead. Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli and head coach Romeo Crennel were among the team employees in the vicinity. Belcher reportedly thanked Crennel and Pioli for all they had done for him, and then took his own life.

"Pioli and Crennel and another coach or employee was standing outside and appeared to be talking to him. It appeared they were talking to the suspect," Kansas City police spokesman Darin Snapp said. "The suspect began to walk in the opposite direction of the coaches and the officers and that's when they heard the gunshot.

"They said the player was actually thanking them for everything they'd done for him. They were just talking to him and he was thanking them and everything. That's when he walked away and shot himself."

Chiefs players were asked to assemble at the team's main facility so that they can be informed of all the details.

The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Carolina Panthers at Arrowhead at 1:00 PM ET Sunday, and per Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer, the Panthers have been told by the league to travel to Kansas City as if the game will be played.

His agent is offering $1 for every RT of a message to go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (and his child). Personally, I'm more concerned about the murder than the suicide.

How the hell does a coach ever recover from a player walking into a locker room and committing suicide right in front of him? This is one of the saddest and most bizarre sports stories I've ever seen. That team is supposed to play a game within 24 hours from now.

According to the local newspaper, a fight broke out between Belcher and his girlfriend after she was out late at a Trey Songz concert.

I'm still trying to figure this one out. He THANKED Crennel and Pioli before killing himself right in front of them? WTF?

Before turning the gun on himself, Belcher thanked Crennel and Pioli for all they had done for him, police spokesman Darin Snapp said.

If you know your life is over, or maybe he realized what happened and was checked out, its not uncommon for people who made their minds up to give away possessions thank friends/ people close to them before doing it (that info can be found on many-a- suicide sites, informercials (like I get made to watch in school), exc. )

What benefit? He murdered his girlfriend (and mother of his newborn) in front of his mother and then drove to practice. It's certainly sad that he felt that he had to take his own life, but I think the suicide is the least important part here.

Just like McNair got accused of all kinds of things prior to the proper info coming out (that the chick was crazy and shot him). I'm simply saying I want to be sure she didn't pull the gun on him cause he was freaking out and he went to grab it and it went off, or something else happened, before I demonize the situation.
