Sources: Jets to fire Tony Sparano

Quote:
According to sources, the Jets do not plan to bring back offensive coordinator Tony Sparano (the Jets are ranked 30th in total offense in Sparano's first season in the role) and Johnson has been putting out feelers for ideas to determine the ideal structure of his front office.

Some league sources believe coach Rex Ryan, who will return, would be best served working again with general manager Mike Tannenbaum, which they believe would provide Johnson the type of stability he respects in other organizations led by such owners as the Maras and Rooneys.

Meanwhile, defensive coordinator Mike Pettine's contract is up and longtime special teams coach Mike Westhoff is retiring.

I wonder what the Raiders plan is for the quarterback position next season. Carson Palmer has been poor this year and is due $13 million next season. The prior regime gave up a lot for him but at 33 he is clearly on the downside of his career. I wonder if they're ready to move on from Palmer completely and cut him (which would trigger a cap hit of around $9 million) or if they'll try to restructure his deal and lessen his salary for next season. I also wonder if today is an audition of sorts for Terrelle Pryor and if they think he'd be ready to be a full-time starter next season.

Let me know when 70/110 has a 300 yard post season game.

*edit: Better yet he should work on getting to 200 yards since he can't do that either. Hopefully he gets a shot at the Redskins 24th ranked defense, because thats the only way he'll fix his awful playoff stats.
Let me know when Tebow completes 60% of his passes. If he wants to be a starting QB, he has to get the ball to his receivers. If Tebow played last year with an average defense, he wouldn't have won a game.

Also, you weigh the good with the bad. Tebow's bad quarters have been way more frequent than his good ones. Ryan's good quarters have far outweighed his bad ones.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported on Sunday Countdown that the Ford Family is concerned enough with the current "culture" of the Lions to at least consider firing head coach Jim Schwartz.
The Lions took a huge step back in 2012, and many observers are attributing it to a loss of control at the top. Immediately after Mortensen's on-air report, one NFL executive texted to ESPN's Adam Schefter the following: "Just heard Mort on Jim Schwartz. I believe he is right. The Fords can not be happy." The Lions endured a seemingly endless string of offseason arrests, only to fall flat on their faces once the games began. There have also been rumors of "tension" between Schwartz and GM Martin Mayhew, the latter of whom is fully expected to be safe. If it came down to it, Schwartz would lose that power struggle.

I will if he gets to play which has been the argument all along

Thats what I continue to say. Put him in and if he throws 40% and goes 1-10 it'll be done, his fad will be over and he can go do CFBL with Jesse Palmer, but if he goes from 45% to 50% or just wins, why not let him continue to try and improve

And I agree about Ryan, I'm just saying if everyone is going to poke holes in Tebow and acknowledge nothing he's done good then I don't see why I can't poke holes in QB's that have done a few things wrong and a lot of good.

Tebow is 25 years old, chances are if he doesn't get it by now he never will. He's not without talent but he's not good enough to be an NFL QB, his natural position is probably h-back.

i always wonder in cases like the Packers, how some players think of the game...

when the Packers play they'll know if the Bears won or not and theoretically determine what they want to do. do you want the Bears in the playoffs? or the Vikings? if they "let" the Vikings win (i.e. rest starters let's say) then the Vikings are in and they keep Chicago out.

but since Cutler throws more completions to the Packers than Rodgers when they play, they'd likely want to see the Bears in the playoffs granted, anything can happen any week and of course the Packers still have something to play for. but theoretically if the Packers already had their seeding locked up, i wonder if players would think about them to themselves, or if teams would even discuss it?

i didn't play sports for very long growing up so i don't know if this is something teams talk about or if this is an unwritten "don't talk about it" rule but i imagine SOME players have to consider it.
