It's actually the opposite, Jeff Ireland is criticised for being too conservative. That's why we have a hard time landing top free agents.

I don't know about that. They signed Dansby to an outrageous contract (at the time) a few years ago which made him the highest paid middle linebacker at the time. They also overpaid for Gibril Wilson's services back in '09. I think they gave him a five year deal worth around $25-27 million ($8 million of which was guaranteed!). While they don't make many free agent moves (like my Steelers), when they do they tend to overpay. I guess management doesn't really have much choice but to overpay though considering the state the franchise is in.

Bayless really gets on my nerves at times. He got what was coming to him, although I think Sherman went a little bit too far. There was no need to get so personal.

Brian Hartline, Miami Dolphins agree on five-year contract

Quote:
The Miami Dolphins and wide receiver Brian Hartline agreed on a five-year contract worth nearly $31 million, a source close to the player confirmed late Thursday.

The deal includes $12.5 million in guaranteed money, the source said.

"It feels great," Hartline said. "It feels great to know hard work and perseverance is worth something. But now it's about winning games. I think we're on the right path. I think we're close

Now if we can add a #1 WR through free agency, our receiving corps will look much better. We would have been back to square one had we lost Hartline.

The Dolphins got another deal done and have re-signed backup QB Matt Moore. I'm a little surprised he didn't at least test the market because I'd heard his name mentioned as a possibility in a place like Cleveland where he could have the chance to compete for a starting job or at least replace the starter during the season if he wasn't doing well. In Miami he's a clear-cut backup and the only way he'll play is if Tannehill gets hurt. Still, Miami has plenty of cap room so maybe they offered him more money than he thought he could get elsewhere.

Edit: Moore's deal is reportedly for 2 years and $8 million.

Matt Moore said he did research to see about possibly starting elsewhere and that led him to re-sign in Miami.

Only as a back-up I guess. Every team(except for the Chiefs) wants to draft their own guy since rookie QBs contribute right away. Expect Arizona to draft a QB with the 7th pick.

Reggie Bush has emerged as one of the Lions’ top targets in a free-agent period that for all intents and purposes begins at midnight.

Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said after the season his biggest failure last year was not finding a suitable replacement for Best.

Jaguars release Dawan Landry & Aaron Ross. I'm pretty surprised we're releasing Landry.

CB Derek Cox is also expected to be released as well. Cox had the potential and showed signs of a very good CB, but injuries slowed him down the past couple of seasons.

I would take Cox in a heartbeat. He should be affordable since he's injury prone and I would start praying he stays healthy.

Milliner is now a possibility at #2.

According to Profootballtalk.com, there is "speculation in league circles" that the Cardinals are "waiting" for the Raiders to release Carson Palmer.

Very interesting. Although Palmer is so immobile at age 33 that he requires strong pass protection -- not something Arizona possesses, currently -- he still throws the football well enough downfield to fit Bruce Arians' vertical passing game. Palmer is a middle-of-the-road quarterback at this stage of his career, but he'd be a mammoth upgrade on last year's Skelton-Kolb-Lindley merry-go-round. It'd be a big plus for Larry Fitzgerald's 2013 fantasy outlook.
Carson Palmer

Interesting indeed...

Hartline bypassed free agency Friday, signing a six-year, $30.7 million contract ($12.5 million guaranteed) to remain with the Dolphins. Hartline said free agency would have been more "lucrative" but he said taking less money is an indication of his excitement about the team's future.

"It just shows how much more important it is for me to be in this organization and be in South Florida, and what we're growing, than it is to just chase the top dollar," he said.

It was a similar story for backup quarterback Matt Moore, who signed a two-year, $8 million deal to return to the Dolphins. Moore, regarded among the league's best backups, opted not to become a free agent and pursue a starting job with another team.

"I think this team is definitely going places," he said. "There's big things to come and I didn't want to miss out."
Glad to see those guys are as excited about that team as much as I am!
