It is. Saints Panthers should be flexed like I suggested a week ago, but you mentioned the Packers fan base.

I won't get into the final play because virtually everyone but the refs and the former ref ESPN employs agrees it was a terrible call. My problem is the way the Patriots played on the drive when it was 17-17. They needed to play that drive like it was 4 down territory and run on the 3rd and 1 and then if they didn't get it go for it on 4th down. The Patriots defense is so depleted that there was little doubt the Panthers were going to score a go-ahead touchdown.

On a side note, the Patriots also got screwed after the Panthers final touchdown. When the receiver scored there was 1:04 left on the clock, and while the receiver was celebrating the clock kept running down to :59 seconds remaining. Those 5 seconds could have meant another Patriots play on the final drive.

I;m not trying to start a war, but I'm glad the Pats lost on a play like that. Too many times I've seen Brady throw it up in an un-catchable way just to draw pass interference (which is the most BS call in sports) and get the free yards. Brady and Rodgers are stupidly good at getting those calls. I just wish there was some kind of stat like "yards gained off pass interference throws".

If you watch that very carefully, Gronk put his hand on the defender first trying to push his hand down. As soon as that happens it should be fair game for the defender to totally affect the intended target. If you're going to call interference on defenders all the time for that crap call it on the WR's and TE's. Total crap that the no fun league is handcuffing defenders left and right.

So the refs said since it was under thrown, it didn't matter. So basically now you can tackle a WR or TE if the ball is over his head or close to being under thrown now? What is sounds like by them defending the call.

That is what made me pissed. He was celebrating and the clock was still ticking. Don't get that either

Except that is not the rule.

I would have expected a holding call, then it wouldn't have mattered where the ball was thrown. Either way It's a pretty terrible call and it seems like the only ones who think they got it right were the officials and espn's "expert".

Since the ball was in the air, PI is the only thing that can be called. Either way, Gronk doesn't catch that ball.

There was contact before the throw.

This sums it up the best.

Quote:
NBC Sports officiating consultant Jim Daopoulus (@RefereeJimD) joined the show to share his thoughts on the final play of the Panthers-Patriots game last night when officials picked up a flag on what looked like interference by Carolina.

"I thought it was a bad mistake," Daopoulus said. "And bad communication on that crew."

Daopoulus thougth there was no way you could call that an uncatchable pass. "I was very frustrated when they were saying it was an uncatchable pass," Daopoulus said.

Daopoulus explained that the ball clearly has to be where the receiver absolutely cannot make a catch. Daopoulus said that NFL receivers sometimes make incredible catches so you have to be careful on judging something is uncatchable.

Nolfoc, regarding the game bet for next week's game, I'd like my prize to be if you can swing it, a new user name and a new member title. I know the new name is unlikely but the new title thing would be nice. Son of Lara Lor-Van would do just fine.

Gronk could have easily adjusted his route he does it countless times, had the defender not pushed him out of the way and mauled him Gronk probably makes that catch.
