Probably because it's more objective to look at the entire career. Winning 3 Super Bowls in 5 tries > winning 1 in 2 tries. Peyton still needs to win this one badly. If he fails again he's still 2 short of Brady and 1 short of his (much inferior) talented brother.

How many QBs can get it done without a solid defense? Very few, I'd imagine, regardless of how explosive your offense is. Also, remember he lost practically all his top receivers from last year, at least 1 starting offensive lineman and his running game was stuffed by Denver in the AFCCG.

What numbers are you talking about? The two guys have almost identical postseason numbers. And the falloff from regular season numbers is essentially identical.

Tom Brady postseason:

Peyton Manning postseason:
34 TD

63% Comp
89 QB Rating
