The Bills have been the Phins toughest matchup the past few years. They are tough up front. Still excited about this year.

Excited for last in the division

It's funny how even Pack fans acknowledge it was a bad call. But the Phin fan can't understand it.

I just rewatched it.. The side judge, who called the TO, was looking up the LOS heard the TO call and started signaling the TO, by waving his hands JUST prior to the snap.

So what should have he done? His focus is on the field... should he ignore everything else?

Your position is that the rule is hard to enforce so they shouldn't bother?

Good lord, I don't agree with walruswarrior on pretty much anything but you are acting insane on this particular issue.

I can see where the confusion lies in that call w/the TO......the ref hears someone yelling TIME OUT TIME OUT on the sideline but at the same time hast to watch the game so he doesn't blow a play dead that's already started.

but I'm still reeling from the "Fail Mary" 2 years ago so I'm going to take this.

Horrible way to lose. I'll be drowning my sorrows as I get
While its true only the HC can call a timeout, all the ref heard was someone yelling TO. Morningweigh is a bonehead it was a crap way to lose cause Smith made one hellva play.

Definitely not all the kicker but the timing was bad on them I guess. He was only 0-2 but he's 0-3 in the 40-49 range now. Carolina came to play though, no points in the first half and Carolina's defense made Stafford look like Derek Anderson.

I just caught the stats but what happened with Locker?

Ouch another injury yesterday as well Vernon Davis is hurt

Quote:

Vernon Davis (ankle) was spotted on crutches following Sunday night's 28-20 loss to the Bears.
Davis hurt his left ankle when he was dragged down from behind by Bears LB Jonathan Bostic in the fourth quarter. The severity of the sprain is unknown, with a Monday MRI likely pending. Backup Vance McDonald was also limited by a first-half knee injury, leaving third-stringer Derek Carrier to catch three passes for 41 yards.

A source tells the New York Post that the Vikings will not release Adrian Peterson.
The Post has sources on this story because Minnesota's ownership group is New Jersey-based. The Vikings are expected to make an announcement regarding Peterson's status at some point Monday and it's possible they'll choose to suspend him even before the NFL steps in. They could also try to trade Peterson. Note that the NFL is expected to review the case under the new domestic violence policy, not the personal conduct policy. First-time offenders of the domestic violence policy get a six-game ban. With Peterson inactive Sunday, Matt Asiata totaled 84 yards and a touchdown on 18 touches as the Vikings lost 30-7 to the Patriots.

I see a lot of logicial posts, and a lot of posts made by an obvious fan.
I saw the game, as it happened, and saw the replays. I think the ref acted in the best interests of the game. It was a bang/bang play! The ref knew the snap was getting close. I'm sure they are trained to listen for the time out call. The ref can't monitor the game and make sure who is calling time out....That's the job of the HC. So, if anything, the Jets(and Rex) should work on calling time outs during their next practice.
Definitely not the the fault of the ref.

I went to the Vikings-Patriots game yesterday and being a Patriots fan it was a pretty good time. We had excellent tickets at the 25-yard line in the 8th row. I was a little nervous at first when the Vikings immediately scored their first drive but after that it was smooth sailing. After the Patriots block field goal for a touchdown to end the first half the stadium immediately went dead. The entire second half the crowd was incredibly quiet except when they would chant for Teddy Bridgewater after every failed Vikings drive.

The blonde at the bottom left of the previous picture is Belichick's girlfriend. He stopped and talked to her a couple times when the team was warming up. She was sitting in the front row a section over from me next to Vince Wilfork's wife.

He was AWFUL. He looked like he had never played before and his only TD came because Walker made one hell of a play to bounce off the defender and run 40 yards for the score. He missed at least four open WRs.

One of the picks was fluky... Rolando McClain made an insane INT that will end up on the top 10 plays.

This was a game we just weren't going to win no matter what. Our defense sucked just as much. Pollard dropped a pick 6 and they went on to score a TD that drive. So if he catches that ball things may have been different. Other than that it wasn't even close. We're lucky the score wasn't worse.

I'm hoping it's just a matchup issue. We can't face offenses that have a ton of weapons. The Chiefs were easy because we could focus all our attention on Charles. Couldn't do that with the Cowboys, as bad as they may be overall.

The Bengals are a far superior team, but now with AJ out I bet we play them close. No way I pick us to win though.

Those are some great seats! How was the stadium? I've never been to a Gophers game and I'm not sure I'll go to an outdoor Vikings game.
The excitement definitely carried over from last week into that first drive. After that, the Vikings looked like the 3-13 team from a couple years ago. Asiata is not a very good running back, but he still puts up some yards and TD's. They didn't get the ball to Patterson much. So many mistakes. The Patriots certainly deserved to win.

TCF was nice and a great stadium for the Gophers. At only about 50,000 seats it's small enough so there really are no bad seats and with it being a relatively new stadium it had a nice concourse and a lot of good food choices. It did have the problem most stadiums have though with no open Wi-Fi and an overloaded cell network that made it impossible to use data to check anything on my cell phone. We parked about 2 miles from the stadium and while that was a bit of a hike it made it so we could get out and onto the highway very easily, whereas after the game all the roads near the stadium were at an absolute gridlock. Overall a nice stadium though, especially when the weather is perfect like yesterday.

All of the so-called "logical posts" you see are made by someone with a vested interest in seeing the Jets lose no matter what.

Why people are saying the Refs getting a vital call wrong is ok because the rule is tough to enforce is beyond me.

Most of the rules that the Refs get wrong are tough to enforce...that's why they get them wrong. Usually people just agree a team got hosed and move on. But oh no, in this case we must be informed that the Jets were not screwed in spite of a blatantly bad call.

What I find especially amusing with Adrian Peterson is that he's trying to "teach his kids discipline like he went through when he was a kid." It's amusing because this guy is widely believed to have fathered as many as seven children with a multitude of different women. Now there's a real role model who learned a lot from those whippings as a kid.

Wonder how long it'll take the media to uncover more abused children. I mean does anyone really think this one kid is the ONLY one Peterson has been smacking around? Doubtful.

It's getting to the point where I think they need to make it so timeouts can only be called using some kind of beeper system that only the head coach can use.

Not at all. He mentioned before that it would only take the Ref 2 seconds to confirm who was calling the timeout. When in fact those two seconds are critical, they play could be snapped or the play clock could run down.

So it is your contention the ref should have looked back and determined that it was the head coach calling the timeout? If he would have done so in this case it would have caused the play to start.

Bottom line, if th OC hadn't tried to call a TO than this wouldn't even be an issue. I hope the a rule get's added that there would be a 5 yard penalty assessed if any coach or player from the sideline tries to call a timeout.

I do hate the jest, but I can put that aside. I'd be saying the same thing no matter what the team is.

It isn't 'tough' as you are trying to say, but it does take time, which in most cases when the HC calls timeout there isn't a lot of. It is usually done when the play clock is getting low.

They didn't get 'hosed', if Marty never tried to call the timeout than we wouldn't be discussing it. It is the jets own doing.

Adrian Peterson will be practicing with the Vikings and playing next week. From owners Zygi and Mark Wilf:

Quote:
Today’s decision was made after significant thought, discussion and consideration. As evidenced by our decision to deactivate Adrian from yesterday’s game, this is clearly a very important issue. On Friday, we felt it was in the best interests of the organization to step back, evaluate the situation, and not rush to judgment given the seriousness of this matter. At that time, we made the decision that we felt was best for the Vikings and all parties involved.

To be clear, we take very seriously any matter that involves the welfare of a child. At this time, however, we believe this is a matter of due process and we should allow the legal system to proceed so we can come to the most effective conclusions and then determine the appropriate course of action. This is a difficult path to navigate, and our focus is on doing the right thing. Currently we believe we are at a juncture where the most appropriate next step is to allow the judicial process to move forward.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and support Adrian’s fulfillment of his legal responsibilities throughout this process.
