I would think they'll try to keep Grossman if the lockout drags on into August or September. It would be very tough to join a team and become a starting quarterback with only a few weeks of practice, especially if it's a rookie.

New Eagles DL coach Jim Washburn is bringing to Philly his "wide-nine" philosophy for the Birds' defensive ends.
In this system, defensive ends line up "outside the parameters of the offensive line," and utilize their speed as opposed to creative pass-rush moves to get to the quarterback. For instance, Jason Babin is an explosive player but lacks a great pass-rush repertoire. He flourished in Washburn's scheme. Speed rusher Trent Cole is going to be dangerous in the new-look defense.

Cam Newton is closer to being an NFL starter than Kaepernick. He's a great athlete, but he needs a lot of work before he would be ready to be an NFL starting quarterback.

After speaking with NFL scouts and coaches, the National Football Post's Matt Bowen believes Vince Young isn't viewed as a viable upgrade "in the current landscape of the QB position in the league."
We all know the rap on V.Y. by now: He's not a leader, can't handle adversity, and lacks commitment and work ethic. It's understandable that NFL teams will be reluctant to hand Young the offensive reins, but his talent and career 26-13 record are tempting enough to grant him a chance to battle for a job in training camp.

Kaepernick seems like a Flacco or Big Ben where if he got into the right situation with a good D, decent line and quality coaching he could flourish, but if he had to go in like Sam Bradford last year, then I think your right.

The former NFLPA has responded to commissioner Roger Goodell's Thursday letter with a four page letter of their own.
Ironically printed on NFLPA stationery, the sprawling missive begins by saying "We start by reminding you that we were at the negotiations and know the truth about what happened." It then reiterates the players' decision to decertify the NFLA was a "last resort" before going on to say they are "troubled" by Goodell's letter, and that his statements are "false." Trust appears to be at an all-time low between the two sides, and it would be shocking if any meaningful progress was made in the next few weeks.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, "word is" the Patriots are already shopping the No. 28 overall pick in the draft.
The Pats have two first-round picks and two second-rounders, and a long history of moving all over the draft board in an effort to acquire even more. The Union-Trib notes Chargers GM A.J. Smith's "history of partnering with Belichick" in draft-weekend trades, and reports that "the idea (of moving to No. 28) is intriguing" to Smith. New England's pick at No. 33 overall is also likely in play, but may not officially be until the first round is over on the night of April 28 and morning of April 29.

League doesn’t rule out replacement players during lockout

It has been widely assumed and explained and concluded that, during a lockout, the NFL teams won’t be able to use replacement players.

The NFL is not yet ready to concede that point.

During an interview earlier this year, NFL outside labor counsel Bob Batterman opted not to comment on the possible strategy. He didn’t say that it couldn’t happen.

Earlier today, an NFL official indicated that, indeed, a return of the Shane Falcos (and Sean Paytons) of pro football could occur.

Per the NFL official, there is nothing legally preventing the league from using replacement players in a lockout. The official said that a decision has not been made.

In 1987, the league used replacement players during a strike. This time around, it could be a much harder sell to hire replacements after the owners locked the doors.

But, hey, replacement football is still better than no football.

It may not get NFL type blow out ratings, but even our preseason games with scrubs would make any TV executive happy. Which is why I personally don't think this is all that bad.

Vikings coach Leslie Frazier made it "pretty clear" at the NFL owners meetings Tuesday that he wants to draft a quarterback and start him right away.
"(The idea) would be to get a young guy that could say, ‘OK, we’re going to ride with this guy. He’s our [Joe] Flacco, he’s our [Mark] Sanchez, he’s our Matt Ryan,'" Frazier said. "He would step in as our starter." Beat writers Judd Zulgad and Tom Pelissero both came away from Frazier's Tuesday breakfast with the media believing that the Vikings will draft a QB in the first or second round. Whether he's "pro-ready" or not, Jake Locker is known to be high on Minnesota's board and is a real possibility at No. 12.

They did keep touchbacks at the 20-yard line, and not move it to the 25-yard line like originally proposed.

The Eagles are willing to trade Kevin Kolb after the draft if no Collective Bargaining Agreement is reached prior to April 28.
According to ESPN's Sal Paolantonio, "(Andy Reid) would be interested in a pick in 2012." If there's no pre-draft CBA (and thus trades are disallowed), we still believe it makes more sense for Reid to keep Kolb as a $1.392 million backup. He's ideal Michael Vick insurance, and the Eagles could always franchise tag Kolb in 2012 if they get Vick signed long term, allowing them to trade Kolb as the Patriots did Matt Cassel. Of course, there's a good chance Philadelphia could get even better compensation for Kolb if interested teams dangle "less valuable" future picks.
