Jason Cole of Yahoo reported yesterday that John Fox would be the next coach in Chicago, and now Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen are both saying that Fox is close to finalizing a deal.

Sounds like it's pretty much a done deal, they're just having a few issues with contract details.

I am doing cartwheels in my office about the John Fox hiring. As a lifelong Bears fan, this season was incredibly hard to swallow. Here's to a good turnaround.

Good. Maybe they can halt this fascination with throwing the ball at least until the next rule change.

So how many teams are still without a coach? (if the Fox deal goes through)

I'm only thinking of DEN & ATL atm

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports Lions DC Teryl Austin has withdrawn his name from the Broncos' head-coaching search.
Quote:
Austin was scheduled to interview with Denver on Friday, but canceled at the last minute. It appears to be Atlanta or a return to Detroit for Austin. He's interviewed twice for the Falcons' head-coaching opening, but Atlanta may be waiting to speak with Seahawks DC Dan Quinn and/or Patriots OC Josh McDaniels before making a decision. The Lions would love for Austin to return.

Have the Broncos interviewed a minority candidate yet? I wonder if Austin figured there was no chance of him actually getting the Broncos job and they were just using him to satisfy the Rooney Rule.

It was the Rooney Rule. As soon as Teryl cancelled, or got cancelled on - I heard rumors of them interviewing a Bengals secondary coach (of color) Vance Joseph

If Broncos are able to land Kubiak, he is far and away Elway's top choice from everything I've heard.

Gary Kubiak will meet with Broncos for their head coaching opening. Interview expected this weekend. Suffice to say Elway very interested

Hahaha that Denver was good. If McDaniels is smart he should just wait out bill.

I don't see Belichick retiring anytime soon. He turns 63 this year but he's shown no signs of slowing down and never talked about retiring. I could easily see him staying 5 more years in New England. There's also no guarantee Kraft would make McDaniels the head coach when Belichick retires.

I feel bad for John Fox. People quickly forget how he turned around the Panthers. Then he came to the Broncos and won with Tim Tebow. Sadly, the last two years they were in a Super Bowl or bust regime with one of the best quarterbacks and couldn't get there. Now he goes to a team with one of the worst quarterbacks in the league. Not even John Fox can turn Cutler into an adult/winning quarterback.

Yup. Sounds like he'll be making a lateral move. Hopefully that's Atlanta

ESPN's Ed Werder reports the Ravens "expect" OC Gary Kubiak to be named the Broncos' next head coach.
Quote:
Kubiak is interviewing with the team on Sunday. Per Werder, coach John Harbaugh would be "understanding" if Kubiak went back on his word to remain in Baltimore. Harbaugh appears sympathetic to Denver being a special opportunity for Kubiak, who both played and coordinated in the rockies. Doug Marrone has reportedly canceled his Broncos interview, which is another sign GM John Elway is zeroing in on Kubiak as his man.

This is going to be fun.... I don't think the 49ers new coach likes talking to people.

It will be interesting to see what the Bears do with Cutler. Even with all his leadership faults, he might be able to be moved via trade.

I'm surprised you guys let him go to a lateral position.
