Brian Orakpo only had 8.5 sacks last season. Only person on the list with fewer was Julius Peppers.

Other sack leaders not on the list.

12.5 - Jason Babin
11.5 - Umenyiora, Justin Tuck, Charles Johnson
11 - Terrell Suggs, Robert Mathis, Chris Clemons, Shaun Phillips
Hali shouldn't be anywhere near that list it took him 4 years to do what Ware and Orakpo did in 2. He was all set to be a bust and then exploded this past season. I agree with the top 3 on that list everyone else is debatable. Matthews will overtake #1, he needs to show he can give that kind of performance over 4+ years before I'll put him in front of Ware.

Guy was second in the league in sacks last season, gotta give him some credit for that. IMO, the two guys who shouldn't be on this list are Abraham and Freeney. I've never been a fan of Abraham, I think he's more likely to repeat the 5.5 sacks he had in 2009 then his total from last year. Freeney is a shadow of his former self. I feared Mathis much more than him whenever the Patriots were playing the Colts.

Nice to see Wake snuck in, he was a terror in the games against the Patriots last year.

I said he exploded this past year... But again plenty of guys have 1 or 2 good years. He was basically doing nothing for years (and thats as a full time DE, Ware and especially Orakpo have to drop into coverage and allot of times are playing LB roles). If he can replicate this past year for 2+ more seasons then again he has an argument.

If I could have one of those players on my team I'd take Matthews without hesitation.

Nothing wrong at all with him. He's just not #1 IMO, he's #2 to Matthews.

I'd take him for consistency (not to sure how his neck will hold up over the next 5 years), but as far as upside and overall freakishness I'm taking Matthews.

Several Dallas Cowboys players have mentioned getting together with new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan to get a jump-start on his system. That apparently is a violation of NFL rules and put the Cowboys among of a group of five teams that have been fined by commissioner Roger Goodell for having contact with players during a "dead'' period.

Miami, Cleveland and San Francisco are also believed to have violated the rule, which is not related to the lockout. Teams can have only limited contact with players until March 15, when off-season programs can begin. Like the Cowboys, each of those clubs has a new head coach or new coordinators.

The NFL released this statement:

"There have been rules in place for years that govern what is permissible prior to the start of the off-season program. ... Before the offseason program begins, players are permitted to use the Club's facilities on a voluntary basis subject to the following rules:

(i) such players may not receive per diem payments or workout bonuses of any kind and may not be paid or reimbursed expenses for travel, board or lodging during this period;

(ii) such players are not permitted to participate in organized workouts, practices or meetings of any kind;

(iii) the Club's strength and conditioning coaches may not direct such players' individual workouts, but may supervise use of the weight room to prevent injury, correct misuse of equipment, etc.;

(iv) such players may not be directed or supervised by position coaches during this period.''

The bad thing about Oakland being on Hard Knocks would be no Tom Cable. That guy would have been great for a TV show. Too bad stupid Al Davis fired him, even though the guy did a great job coaching the team to an 8-8 record last season.

Their 2-8 non-division record and inability to establish a franchise QB over the season probably had something to do with that.

What does the coach have to do with that? They don't have an effective QB. A coach doesn't just wave a magic wand and have a good QB appear. An 8-8 record is damn good for a team few people thought would crack 5 or 6 wins before the season.

Does Al Davis still get heavily involved with day to day stuff in public? I'm wondering if he'd have any real face time on Hard Knocks. Or does he only rise from the crypt every year or two to fire a coach and run his mouth?

The Cryptkeeper!
As far as the Oakland QBs go - Campbell has all the talent, Gradkowski is smarter, Campbell probably has the better chance to succeed in the NFL.
