Right when we signed Aldon last year I was worried that he'd be a distraction but he acted like a choir boy in Oakland.
I guess time will tell if either of these guys found the errors of their ways...but Oakland took zero risk signing Smith. No guaranteed money and he can't play until November anyway, so it's a great deal for Oakland.
Meanwhile Hardy probably wouldn't go for the no guaranteed money, which is why he's not on a team right now. Much more risk.

One of the more athletic and promising tight ends of the 2016 NFL Draft, Western Kentucky's Tyler Higbee, was arrested early Sunday morning for second-degree assault, public intoxication and evading police, according to Warren County Regional Jail records.

According to a police report obtained by Zach Greenwell of the Bowling Green Daily News, Higbee punched a man outside a Kentucky bar and left the victim with a brain hemorrhage. As of Monday morning, the victim is in stable condition, but still unresponsive.

The victim, Nawaf Alsaleh, was found by police lying unconscious in a bar parking lot "with blood running from his mouth." Via Greenwell:

Higbee stated that Alsaleh got in the "personal space" of him and his girlfriend "and was calling his friends telling them to come to their location to fight Higbee."

"I asked Higbee how he knew that because Higbee said Alsaleh was speaking in a language he did not understand," the officer wrote in the report. "Higbee said that he 'just knew.' "

Once at the jail, Higbee told the officer "that Alsaleh never tried to fight him or come after him as if he was going to harm him. Higbee just said that Alsaleh got into his and (his girlfriend's) personal space so he hit Alsaleh," according to the report.

Higbee was one of only two Western Kentucky players invited to the NFL Combine in February, but didn't participate in drills due to a knee injury suffered late in the 2015 season. However, he impressed at his pro day despite still not being healthy enough to participate fully.

Before the arrest, one NFL tight ends coach told Jody Demling of Scout.com that it would be a surprise if Higbee didn't get picked before the fourth round. He was drawing plenty of recent interest from teams, too, including a visit with the Denver Broncos and a workout with the New Orleans Saints. He was reportedly drawing attention from coaches of the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead.

Higbee caught 38 passes for 563 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior, but missed five games due to injury.
This is the quickest way to drop like a rock in the NFL draft.

Dumb stuff yes, nearly killing a person and leaving them in a puddle is a little more then doing dumb stuff imo.

In a perfect world this kid would be told thanks but no thanks by all 32 teams. If he is willing to throw his career away at a time like this because some guy so called invaded his and his girlfriends "personal space", all teams would be smart to not give this kid a job imo!

Josh Gordon failed another drug test.
Exactly how many failed tests/arrests does one need to be banned from the league?

Exactly. Highly addictive prescription painkillers can be doled out to players like M&Ms, but God forbid they puff on a natural plant that's perfectly legal in some states.

Almost the entirety of the banned substances list in the NFL is perfectly legal in all states. Legality has nothing to do with it.

EDIT: I forgot the big subset at the bottom of the list of things that were only legal in foreign countries and/or have been deemed too dangerous some time in the past. So it's not "almost the entirety of the list". Still, quite a large chunk of the list is still legal. 2014 list here for reference: https://nflpaweb.blob.core.windows.n...Substances.pdf

Its not the weed thats pegging him this time its the Dilutin

Quote:
Garafolo makes it clear that Gordon isn't necessarily suspended for another year, but it's not looking good. Collected by the NFL in early March, Gordon's test reportedly came up positive for "marijuana and dilute." "Though the level of marijuana was below the 35 nanograms per milliliter required for a positive test, the diluted sample is considered a positive test," per Garafolo.

I wonder when the NFL schedule is going to be released. They don't give much heads up in advance of the schedule release, but it's expected to be released before the draft so next week seems likely. It's usually released on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday so April 19-21 will likely feature the release.

Shows what I know, thought it came out in March to keep some interest in the NFL between the draft and the Super Bowl. Curious myself, plan to fly to Minnesota this year with my family to see the Vikings get rocked by the Cowboys.

What exactly does this mean? Was he taking some substance to try to fool the test?

What company allows its employees to knowingly smoke weed though? Aside from restaurants...

Just playing devil's advocate here... I smoke time to time (like 2-3 times a year), and I have no issue with it whatsoever.

But it wouldn't be fair at all for the NFL to allow the players to smoke while all other employees would not be allowed to.

At the end of the day, if you want to play in the NFL and smoke pot, know the times of year that tests are given and go clean for a while. It's not that hard. I'm pretty sure it's literally once or twice a year. And the players know about the tests ahead of time. That's my understanding. Derrick Mason co-hosts a local radio show here and he's mentioned this.

Or you can be happy with millions of dollars and only smoke a few times a year, which will never show up on a test if your body fat % is low enough, which it would be unless you're a lineman.

Yep. Mettenberger did the same thing right before the draft.

Never touched the stuff. Never had the desire.
But is it worth giving up millions of dollars in NFL contracts? Not to mention endorsement deals? Doesn't seem so to me...but hey, to each his own.
