It's going to be interesting to see if Elway calls Von Miller's bluff. Things seem to be getting rather contentious.

I trust Miller's stance to not play, especially with Ware's back problems, Miller has more leverage than the Broncos do.

I for one am enjoying the stance that some of the GMs across the league are taking by not kowtowing to some of the ridiculous monetary contract demands that are being thrown around the NFL these days, the NYJ GM included. While I would love to keep a home grown talent like Mo Wilkerson, paying him more than Cox was just inked for is absolutely ludicrous.

The problem is if Miller doesn't get signed by the July 15th deadline there's a good chance that he'll sit out all or most of training camp at a minimum, and usually when players sit out camp they're not very efficient at the start of the season. With games against the Panthers, Colts, and Bengals at the start of the season the Broncos are going to need Miller to be 100%. The Broncos currently only have $102 million in cap liabilities in 2017 (and that includes Aqib Talib making $12 million and Russell Okung making $11.7 million, neither of which is likely to happen), so they can definitely afford to give Miller a big deal.

But the Jets just backed the cash truck up to Reavis Island?
Not sure how much they paid to all the other big name free agents over the last two years: Decker, Marshall, Forte, etc...but some of that money could've been earmarked for their stud D-linemen.
Unfortunately unless free agency changes, everyone knows that if you don't pay up, some other team will.
I know the PU would never go for it, but it would be great to have some sort of slotted pay scale each off season(like rookies). That way there would be no holdouts or guessing games. You get paid based on how your stats ranked with an aggregate average, to compensate for lost playing time.

There's no way for stats to properly value a player. There's so much more that goes into a player's value than stats. There are defensive lineman that don't have great stats because they're always double and triple teamed all the time, and then the players behind and beside them benefit with more tackles and sacks because less attention is paid to them. There are running backs, receivers, and tight ends that don't put up huge offensive stats but are great blockers. There are corners that don't have great stats because QBs throw away from them. There's no way to properly value offensive lineman. Stats don't take into account intangibles like leadership (or a lack thereof). If salaries were based on stats most players would just be trying to rack up stats rather than filling their role.

You still see skill position players break their necks in contract years trying to get that big pay day but yeah. For the most part, stats are for statisticians and fantasy players and shouldn't play a big role in contract negotiations.

I know! There are many intangibles. Which is why it will be status quo, and guys will continue to break the bank each year.

Has anyone been charged for NFL ST yet? Normally by now they've charged my monthly for the ST package and they haven't.

That's rich coming from a fan who's team just dropped a questionable amount of coin on their QBs in addition to recently setting the market with Cox.

I don't have the figures handy, but Decker was the most expensive of that group and was our FA splash that year and even he wasn't a ton of money. Marshall was one helluva trade that cost us little to nothing and Forte actually saved us money considering the amount that JAX overpaid for Ivory and is an upgrade in the passing game, so...

When you stack up Cox's stats versus Mo Wilk's, Mo wins based on less playing time, so obviously he's going to command more and the Jets will balk at that considering how we have good depth along the DL. Our target to earmark money for will be Sheldon Richardson.

Seriously NFL really?

Quote:
For the last few years, Patriots coach Bill Belichick has had his team practice in the summer without numbered jerseys. But this year, the NFL put a stop to the practice.

Mike Reiss of ESPN reports that the NFL instituted a new rule requiring all players to wear jersey numbers while on the field for Organized Team Activities and mandatory minicamps. The rule was put in place to make it easier to monitor compliance with rules regarding player practices, including that injured players should not be practicing.
Of all the things to make rules on this one is the stupidest I have ever heard. Kinda dont see an issue with the Patriots doing this at all.

That goes without saying. I wouldn't be surprised if Rex already reached out to him.

They need to be more worried about what actually constitutes a catch than this nonsense.

That would be a lot of money tied up in the defensive tackle position as Mo likely is looking for a contract similar if not greater than Marcell Dareus' 6-year, $95.1 million deal.

I don't see why teams wouldn't already be doing this Seems like a no-brainer to me. This rule is very non-intrusive for any team not hiding something.
