He's a hothead and he's too undependable because of his concussion history. Brady also prefers David Andrews as his center over Stork. It's interesting that a lot of the national media is treating this as a shocking move because most of the Patriots-centric media I've read over the last week expected Stork to either be traded or released.

What fatediesel said...apparently, he's also not the best locker room presence from what I've read.

It's starting to look likely that the Joey Bosa holdout will extend into the regular season. The Chargers released this statement today:

Quote:

Our contract discussions and offers to the representatives of Joey Bosa have been both fair and structurally consistent with the contracts of every other Chargers player.

Our offer included:

An initial signing bonus payment that is larger than any player in the league has received in the last two drafts.

More money in this calendar year that every player in this year's draft except one (QB Carson Wentz)

The largest payment and the highest percentage of signing bonus receiver in the first calendar year of any Chargers' first-round selection since the inception of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

We gave Joey's representatives our best offer last night, which was rejected today. The offer that we extended was for Joey to contribute during all 16 games and beyond. Joey's ability to contribute for an entire rookie season has now been jeopardized by the valuable time he has missed with his coaches and his teammates. Since Joey will not report at this time, his ability to produce not just early in the season but throughout the entire season has been negatively impacted.

As a result, we will restructure our offer since Joey will be unable to contribute for the full 16 game season without the adequate time on the practice field, in the classroom, and in preseason games.

The Patriots didn't end up releasing Bryan Stork, they're trading him to Washington for a conditional pick. Washington likely felt that with Stork being subject to waivers another team with a higher waiver priority would claim him so they ensured they'd get him by giving up a late round pick that likely could end up being nothing if Stork doesn't play in a certain number of games.

As usual, the Patriots come out of it looking smart.

Proof that offset language is such a stupid issue for both sides to be arguing about:

Quote:
Jason Cole ‏@JasonColeBR
Fwiw, of 75 players drafted No. 1 to No. 5 from 1999 to 2013, offset language would have applied to 1 player: Cedric Benson. #Chargers, Bosa

The Hooded One loves him some late round/conditional picks.

Was thinking even at his young age he might want to consider retiring, he has already had one to many concussions imo.

Good kickers are now worth more with the changes in the kicking game, but you still don't grab one in the second round when you could get him in later rounds.

I'm for players getting what they're worth, but Joey Bosa is a guy with 0 NFL stats to fall back on. The guy literally has no leverage. What's he going to do, sit out? Try to sign with another team? He'll get signed for less money than he would've got from the Chargers.

This was what killed me about the Titans from 2012-2015 (Ruston Webster era)... We were literally the last team to sign our 1st round pick every time because of arguments over offset language. Sends the wrong message to your new players. Especially Mariota. Pathetic that we waited as long as we did to get him signed.

This year, with a new GM, we signed Conklin right away.
