He signs a new extension every couple years they will get that cap hit down.

Best quote I've seen for romo

Romo retiring for career in broadcasting, he will cover only the regular season and plans to not show up for playoffs
He's smarter than Flacco.

And he can renegotiate and spread out the cap hit all he wants, but that ends when he retires and all those signing bonuses are dead cap space each year. They honestly might as well take those hits while he's still there instead of killing themselves while they try to replace him.

Brady's cap hit is never killer if he retires. If he retired after the 2017 season his dead cap would be $14 million, and if he retired after the 2018 season it'd be $7 million. Both of those amounts are manageable, especially since they could take the hit over 2 years. They haven't done what the Cowboys did with Romo and restructured his contract every year to move money into the future.

And like I said, no team would just be able to sign Romo without any compensation. We can keep going back and fourth but we only released him because he wanted to go to tv. Got Em!!

Wouldn't surprise me if he had some language that allowed him to get out of his CBS contract to play in he NFL next year.
That way he gets to keep his signing bonus by not retiring and the cap hit isn't as bad for Dallas.

Cowboys had no control over him going to tv. He retired, he can do what he wants.

Romo retires, Cowboys release him, Romo goes to work for CBS or can unretire and sign with any team he likes.

Romo didn't retire. He was released.
The reasoning, as I stated previously, is he will probably look to sign with a team next season.

Wasn't this the guy giving advice to Zeke? If that's not a textbook example of the blind leading the blind, I don't know what is.

Is he? Flacco waited till after he had a super bowl ring to ask for top dollar. Matt ryan wanted a new contract a week before the bowl with 2 years remaining. As for the cap there is a reason the pats had 60 million in cap space after winning the bowl. They know what they are doing.

Raiders and Seahawks are expected to work out the Marshawn Lynch details soon. Lynch met with the Raiders today after Seattle granted him permission.

Seahawks' GM said Lynch will only come out of retirement for the Raiders and that the transaction will be very smooth since both GMs are longtime friends.

At this rate romo will still be on the books when they sign dak to an extension.
Yeah I don't think the Cowboys are going to be hurting for that $5 million. That's just my guess.

The only QBs from the last 30 years in the Hall with fewer passing yards and touchdowns than Romo are Steve Young, Troy Aikman, and Kurt Warner, and all three of them had Super Bowl wins, Super Bowl MVPs, and at least one first-team All-Pro appearance.
Yeah I agree, I love Tony but he's not a HOFer. If he had a Super Bowl ring or maybe even an appearance in the Super Bowl along with his numbers he'd probably get in one day but not getting to the championship round at least is not HOF worthy.

$14mil is his signing bonus that he's put off many years. His actual salary is $1 mil for 2017.

I don't think those "backtracked payouts" are going to hurt the team. Brady and his people will work out something with Belichick, Kraft and his people so that the team will not be hurt. Belichick is aware of all

Brady is the G.O.A.T.

If he retires, he can't just work out a new deal that stretches the money across differing years.

He wouldn't just go I'm done bye. They would pull a romo make him a June 1 cut spread the money than press conference and retire. Every qb who retries will probably have some kind of cap hit they usually get 20-30 million signing bonuses.

OK so he didn't officially file his retirement papers. He said he was going to retire, Cowboys released him. He's now free to do whatever he wants. Stay on tv or start for the Browns. His choice.

I know the GMs are friends but there's no reason for the Raiders to give more than a 7th round pick for Lynch. If Lynch wants to come back the Seahawks will have to release him because they aren't going to pay him the $9 million he'd be due this season. They've only got about $10 million in cap space, and even if they had plenty of space they still wouldn't pay Lynch that much.
