I agree that McCarthy needs to get rid of Capers. But that in no way strengthens your statement that a head coach needs to be defensive minded. to be highly successful. That's patently false. And yes, the last few winners have been coached by defensive-minded head coaches. But the defense alone hardly won it all for them. The Pats were third in the NFL in scoring last year with one of the top QBs of all-time. The Broncos did win it all, pretty much, with defense in 2015. In 2014, it was the Pats again winning it all, and they were third in scoring again. 2013 it was the Seahawks, and Pete Carroll is a defensive-minded coach. But they were also 8th in the NFL in scoring.
Before that? 2012 was The Ravens. John Harbaugh has coached both offense and defense. 2011 the Giants were clearly offensive driven under Tom Coughlin. 2010, the Packers won with McCarthy, an offensive guru. And the Packers beat the #1 defense in the NFL in the Super Bowl, by the way. 2009? The Saints won with Sean Payton, who is clearly an offensive-minded coach. 2008? Mike Tomlin and the Steelers; Tomlin is a defensive-minded coach. 2007? Coughlin and the Giants again. 2006? The Colts won with Tony Dungy, who was a D coordinator. But it was the Colts offense that won it for them. They were second in points scored, and 23rd in points allowed. The point? There is no clear indicator that defensive-minded head coaches are more successful. Your logic is specious. Quote:

I don't see megatron even with all his talent they didn't win much. JJ only has 4 years no one is talking about Elvis dumervil getting in and he has 25 more sacks than JJ. Megatron finished with less yards than Hines ward who also had 2 rings. Not to mention Tory holt who has 2,000 more yards than Johnson and a ring and still isn't in the hall. Owens isn't even in and he in number 2 or 3 on every list.

Seriously???
![]() Dumervil's AV (Approximate Value) in 11 seasons (really 10 seasons, 150 games) is 77. Watt's AV in 5.5 seasons, 87 games, is 90. Dumervill might have 25 more sacks, but he played 63 more games. He recorded 17 sacks in a season twice. Watt had a season of 17.5 sacks, and two 20.5 sack seasons. Dumervil went to five Pro Bowls, and was All Pro twice, again, in about ten seasons. Watt was a Pro Bowler in every full season but his rookie year, and was All Pro four times. And he was the AP Defensive Player of the Year twice. Watt was the dominant defensive player in the NFL. Dumervil isn't even in the same class as Watt. Quote:

![]() Horrible news about JJ Watt. No doubt one of the good guys, both on and off the field. I’m not closing the book on him just yet. Guy is as tough as they come and wouldn’t surprise me to see him back next season stronger than ever. If he’s unable to resume his career, I’m not so sure about the HoF. As it stands, no way he gets in as a first ballot. Unless the Hall allows more entrants per year the back log of candidates is only going to increase. Only four years and no rings is a tough call, but I wouldn’t mind if he got in. |

![]() Both my teams are still a disaster thanks to DeMarco Murray and Jay Ajayi being 100% steaming piles of dogsh*t so far. After this week I will be 2-3 in one league and 1-4 in the other. Just brutal! ![]() |
