Speaking Monday, Chiefs coach Andy Reid gave Alex Smith another vote of confidence.

"Alex is my guy," was Reid's exact quote. It confirms what Reid said after Sunday's (latest) dispiriting loss. Smith's game has gone completely off the rails after the league adjusted to the #NewAlex it saw in Weeks 1-7. Smith is again cowering behind the line of scrimmage, refusing to throw deep while too often bailing on the pocket for minimal-gain scrambles. The Chiefs have problems all over the offense — and defense — but it would not be crazy for the team to make the switch to first-round rookie Patrick Mahomes. If Smith once again struggles against the Jets, perhaps Reid will make the change for Week 14.

Smith is the guy for this season but all the recent struggles make it easier for the change going into next season, even if the Chiefs back into the playoffs. It won't be a Brees-Rivers situation like it originally appeared with the hot start.

Smith has never struck me as a franchise QB, this season's hot start didn't change my mind. With all the firepower on that offense they should be scoring 30+ points a game but Smith is just...eh.

I read somewhere a few weeks back (possibly NFL.com, can't remember exactly) where Alex Smith was quoted as saying he doesn't expect to be on the Chiefs roster next year. Should be interesting how this plays out the rest of the season.

I don’t know man I think this was his last shot. He might be a back up but what team wants a guy who can’t win you a game.

I'm sure some QB needy team will give him a shot if there's an injury. Any delusions he can be a franchise QB have to be over at this point.

At least a half-dozen teams are in desperate QB situations. Makes sense to draft someone and have him sit behind Smith for a year until they're ready. Hell, that's pretty much what KC is doing right now anyway.

The Cowboys? Nope, they could win out but I still see the NFC wild card teams both finishing at least 10-6. Pretty sure they both have tie-breakers over us anyway. Not to mention chances are we lose out to fall to 5-11.

NFC in general is brutal this year. AFC's only got the Pats and I guess kinda sorta Pittsburgh.

Two 10-2 teams and then everyone else, really. Jacksonville could surprise.
