Regardless i'm happy we have him.
The problem tagging him is that after 2 years he would walk if he didn’t like the organization because a 3rd year tag would be almost impossible. At this rate a 3rd year take would be like $46 million maybe more. Signing him long term now made his cap hit this year only 2 million as opposed to 20+ million.

I don't think the Cousins contract is bad. Assuming he doesn't fall apart and continues to play at the level he's playing, he's going to see all three years without getting released. It's not like it was an eight year guaranteed contract. Basically he's betting on himself yet again. If he's a success, he'll get an even bigger payday. If he underwhelms, the Vikings are free after three years.

The AirCase reign has come to an end. Captain Kirk is helming the ship now.

Dammit, Kirk. I'm a wide receiver, not a doctor. All I do is catch touchdowns!

Signing shorter, fully-guaranteed contracts might occasionally for marquee players, almost exclusively quarterbacks, but the status quo is going to remain for about 98% of the league. Players want to get paid as early as possible so the best players rarely become free agents, and if they do the team can usually retain them with the franchise tag, so the top players that could be worth fully-guaranteed contracts won't have the leverage of unrestricted free agency to pit teams again each other.

Cousins contract is just 2018 nfl. Ryan tannehill didn’t play well in 2016 and missed all of 2017 and they didn’t even blink at paying him 18 million in 2018. 3 year guaranteed is the norm on most contracts so basically the Vikings don’t get the extra back end to lower the cap but this is gonna be the new norm. Qb contracts are gonna be ridiculous.

Fully guaranteed contracts won't become the norm, the Kirk situation is an outlier. But yeah, bigger guaranteed amounts will definitely happen. And so will stupid teams doing stupid things a la the Ryan Tannehill payday.

Almost every QBs first 3 years are guaranteed so you could see more 3 year fully guaranteed contracts or at least QBs insisted on an out clause like in basketball.

Unless you’re a politician, politics should remain out of the work place.

I feel it’s unfair to push your agenda, whatever it may be, on fellow coworkers.

I'm sort of with you here. In my workplace there's nothing more annoying than the guy who runs his mouth about politics randomly. In this case he's a conservative. Every week there's at least one annoying outburst. I never say anything and keep my own politics to myself in the workplace. The person I mention wonders why he never gets promoted. It's obvious to me a lot of it has to do with him running his mouth about political issues.

That being said pro sports is a bit different. It is not a normal workplace. There's a long history of social/political activism. Often times players end up paying gig a big price, sacrificing big parts of their careers over their stances. History almost always vindicates them. The U.S. athletes at the 1968 Olympics who gave the black power salute were despised by most Americans at the time, as was Muhammad Ali for his religious conversion and refusal to be drafted. Today both are considered applauded for what they did. I'm sure decades from now most Americans will appreciate people like Kaepernick, even white Americans and will look back with shock that people of today considered him "controversial."

Neither has Bradford and he got 20 million coming off a 1 game season last year. The idea that QBs have to earn their money is GONE.

Yeah, Chase Daniel's contract with the Bears is a two-year deal with a player option for the second year, so if Trubisky gets hurt and Daniel plays well he can opt-out and become a free agent.

Bashaud Breeland failed a physical, so his 3-year, $24 million ($11 million guaranteed) contract with the Panthers is null and void.
