Shaw was also the USC player who made up that he sprained his ankles jumping from the second floor to save his nephew from drowning. He was also suspended for that.

Not sure how that makes a difference whether he's active. Not only are NFL players prohibited from betting on NFL games, they're also not allowed to bet on any professional or college sport. I'm quite certain NFL players are constantly reminded of the consequences of betting on NFL games, regardless of whether their teams are involved or not.

Is he the first player to bet on NFL games in 35 years? Certainly not. In fact I'd be surprised if the NFL actually looks into players betting on other sports.
He's just the first who was dumb enough to bet on NFL games and get caught. If his team were involved in any game he bet on the ban would likely be for life, and deservedly so.

Wow, left Pittsburgh today and saw on the morning news that there was a stabbing. Didn’t find out until on the road it was Terrell Pryor. Sure hope he’s okay.

Hah, thanks for the update! Been watching but it doesn’t look good.
I can wait as long as 1pm tomorrow, but I don’t want a repeat of his last game where he runs a few plays then leaves. Can’t risk it.
