Forgot what it's like when the Seahawks actually try all season instead of just waking up after the bye week.

Ron Rivera is out in Carolina after 9 seasons

Quote:
Panthers fired coach Ron Rivera.

In the midst of his ninth season with the Panthers, Rivera had been the seventh-longest tenured head coach in the NFL. A parting of ways was beginning to look like a strong possibility in the offseason, but it is rather odd timing with four games remaining. The Panthers clearly want to get a jump on the league in the research-and-interview department. With the Panthers purchased by hedge fund billionaire David Tepper in May 2018, "Riverboat Ron" and his old school ways were in conflict with the owner's philosophy. It was probably time for a shakeup regardless of who was at the helm. The Panthers have reached the playoffs just one time since their 2015-16 Super Bowl appearance, winning zero postseason games. Rivera is sent packing with three NFC South titles. If he doesn't get another head-coaching gig, Rivera will be in high demand as a defensive coordinator.

I'll take Riverboat Ron as DC for Detroit.

Make it happen.

He won’t stay unemployed for long. Very well respected coach in the NFL community.

Teams could do a lot worse than Ron Rivera. Unlike some people he's actually got a team to the Super Bowl. I'll take him over Garrett.

Whoa, even though I understand the reasoning of wanting to get a jump on other teams for offseason hires, this is pretty unexpected. If the new owner is wanting to start start fresh I would imagine moving on from Cam to be a real option for them now.

PIT is sticking with Hodges as the starter this Sunday vs. the Cards

As a Panther fan, I'm not sure how I feel about Rivera being fired. There were more key injuries than just Cam...and yet, how a run defense can be that undisciplined over and over and over again this season...

It felt at times like the team had, if not given up completely, sorta conceded this year as a loss.

Funny thing is, if you gave the Panthers four yards to apply anywhere they wanted, to any of their goal-line losses this year, they would probably be in the playoffs and Rivera would have been spared.

That's the NFL though: Penthouse to outhouse before you even get to turn the key to enter..

Skins are so bad they got two coaches fired this year lol

Ron will be fine, I expect he'll wanna be a HC somewhere else but if that doesn't work out, maybe Philly can give him a call to be our DC.

A lot of speculation with the Giants. Rivera and Gettleman have a good relationship.

Jones was asked during his Tuesday morning appearance on 105.3 The Fan about Garrett and why, with the Cowboys sitting at 6-6 and not looking too hot, the owner doesn't want to make an in-season coaching change. He first referred to Garrett's work ethic and knowledge of his team before shifting to his opinion on selecting a Super Bowl-caliber coach and how it's admittedly an inexact science.

"Nobody has the exclusive skills to get the job done so that collectively you can win a Super Bowl," Jones said, per The Athletic. "But there are qualified people. Jason Garrett is one of them. In my opinion, Jason Garrett will be coaching in the NFL next year."

Since you can't fire the entire team, the coach always falls on the sword even if the people who pushed him onto the sword are more responsible for the losses.

That would be great, be nice to have him back, but I doubt he settles for DC.
Schwartz’s defense is severely flawed as he can’t change to fit the actual personnel on hand.
No matter what there will be staff changes this off season. Philly made the mistake of promoting too many from within and it’s shown.

It’s funny how the preseason narrative was “keep Wentz upright”. Only problem was they couldn’t keep the rest of the team upright. Overhaul the training staff too!

Pretty crazy the Giants have the potential opportunity to draft two generational talents in a three year span.

Getting a cornerback would be nice for my Vikings but I wouldn't mind if they drafted a new left tackle or left guard. Riley Reiff isn't getting any younger and Pat Elfelein has been a disaster.
