The last 2 WR's were busts, especially former Arkansas QB/WR Matt Jones.
One thing he got "right" was he was a pothead like Randy Moss, you simply don't take projects in the 1st round, though. Blackmon is probably already Larry Fitzgerald/Calvin Johnson caliber, I think you'd like to have a higher quality QB chucking it down the field to him though.

It will work on the Colts even with Manning there, but with that Texans defense today. Probably not.

MaCruz, your team had me worried. Y'all have a great defense too and I hate that we went ultra conservative after Leinart got hurt but I think Kubiak was just trying to make sure we got out there without having to go to Owen Daniels as QB.
We better throw some passes beyond the LOS this next week or it does not look good for our chances to win many.

I just cannot believe how bad your luck is, you guys were one of the best teams in the NFL even without Mario Williams and Andre Johnson and then you lose your top two QBs over a two week span.

The joke around here is that Bob McNair made a deal with the devil to get us to the playoffs and that a player has to be injured for every win.

I guess you will always be my team's "little brother", you guys sure have come a long way since your league entry in 2002 though. Next year you will probably be Super Bowl contenders, still surprised how well your defense is playing, granted you have more talent on defense than we do.

At least I rather be in your shoes. You guys are lucky to be in a good situation right now despite the QB situation. Titans, up and down. No Peyton Manning to worry about, and Jags going backwards from a season ago. I always criticize the Texans before a new season starts, but you guys are finally going to make the playoffs and take the South from the Colts.

And so the Drama Begins again... Suh to appeal suspension

Quote:
Lions' Ndamukong Suh expected to appeal two-game suspension
Chris McCosky/ The Detroit News

Allen Park— These aren't the statistics Ndamukong Suh was looking to compile in his second season — nine personal foul penalties, $47,500 in fines, $165,000 in lost salary and, as the NFL decreed Tuesday morning, a two-game suspension.

"NFL vice president of football operations Merton Hanks notified Ndamukong Suh today that he has been suspended without pay for the Lions' next two games for his unsportsmanlike conduct in the Lions-Packers game on Thanksgiving Day," read a statement from the league. "It was Suh's fifth violation of on-field rules in the past two seasons that has resulted in league discipline."

Suh will not be allowed to practice or be at the team's practice facility during the two-week, unpaid suspension.

According to ESPN, Suh has been encouraged by the players' association to appeal and he is expected to, in order to possibly get the suspension reduced to one game. It is unlikely an appeal would have any impact on the game Sunday night in New Orleans.
Apparently there is more to it no matter what he will server the first game vs the Saints...

Quote:
Suh’s willingness to sit on Sunday night could be a leverage play

In a confusing and unexpected twist to the Ndamukong Suh saga, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Suh plans to appeal the two-game suspension meted out by the league on Tuesday, but that he also plans to serve the first game of the punishment while the appeal is pending.

Schefter explains that Suh has been encouraged by the NFLPA to pursue the appeal, in order to ensure that players who engage in similar behavior won’t be suspended in the future. And that, of course, will do nothing to improve the current public perception of the NFLPA. Already suffering from the appearance that the NFLPA wants to protect HGH users by refusing to honor an agreement to conduct HGH testing, the NFLPA now risks developing a reputation for running interference for players who stomp on other players.

And it doesn't help that some dude named Aaron Rodgers was drafted 3 picks after we took Matt Jones in 2005.

Yes, I really hope the two game ban is upheld. Suh has been playing Russian Roulette all season long with his dirty play, he needs to be taught a lesson.

I found this on CNN.com - supposedly a "serious" news outlet. At first I thought this article was parody, but apparently it's an attempt at a serious CNN column.

http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/1...les/?hpt=hp_t2

Quote:
Skeptics generally concede that Tebow, an outspoken Christian, was an extraordinary high school and college football player. After all, he won the Heisman Trophy as a sophomore, and led his University of Florida team to two NCAA football titles.

But those who refuse to bow down before Tebow insist that NFL football is another game altogether, and when it comes to that game Tebow is a passing fancy. They attribute Denver’s near miraculous 5-1 run during his reign as a starter not to his offense but to the Broncos defense.

They point out that he throws about as well as Peppermint Patty, and that in one of his wins he completed only two passes more than Charlie Brown (which is to say two). His completion percentage (45.5%) is last in the league.

Skeptics are also turned off by Tebow’s public displays of religion. Tebow used to cite Bible verses on his eye black. And his tendency to be found praying while his teammates are strutting has added a new word—“Tebowing”—to the lexicon.

True believers say to hell with all that. What matters are the intangibles. Tebow is a winner. He may allow his team to fall behind, but in the end he leads the Broncos to victory, often in a fashion that can only be termed miraculous.

Which is to say, when it comes to the Almighty TT, you gotta have faith (or not).

In his book “Faith and Belief,” the Religious Studies scholar Wilfred Cantwell Smith describes how the notion of “faith” changed over the centuries from something like “trust” to its modern-day meaning of “belief in the unbelievable.”

And that, it seems to me, is what we are witnessing with Tebow.

It is simply not believable that a quarterback who cannot throw would turn a team from a 1-4 also-ran to a 6-5 playoff contender. But Tebow has done that, in part by running and in part, well, by faith.

There is, to be sure, Tebow's faith in Jesus. But perhaps more importantly, there is the faith of his teammates in him. Not to mention the adoration of legions of University of Florida alums, and of fans in Denver and beyond.

As a scholar of religion, I have little expertise in football, NFL or otherwise. But I cannot help weighing in on a few comparisons between TT and JC:

Jesus: turned a ragtag band of 12 apostles into the number one religion in the world

Tebow: turned a ragtag squad of 11 football players into an NFL juggernaut

Jesus: prayed a lot (to God)

Tebow: prays a lot (to Jesus)

Jesus: ran the money changers out of the temple

Tebow: runs the spread option

Jesus: miraculously saved a wedding at Cana by turning water into wine

Tebow: miraculously led the Broncos to last-second victories against the Dolphins, the Jets and the Chargers.

Coincidence? You be the judge. As for me, I'm sitting back and waiting for Tebow to do something truly miraculous. Like winning a game without completing a single pass, or running back a punt for a touchdown, or kicking a 50-yard field goal to win a game.

Meanwhile, I am happy to report that Jesus is still more famous than Tebow. At least for now
.

Dan Orlovsky? Good luck with that. Guess he can't be any worse than Painter.

Orlovsky was on the 0-16 Lions team. This might be the 2nd 0-16 NFL team he's started at QB for. Poor guy.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/72...ky-starting-qb

Quote:
Colts fire D-coordinator, switch QBs

The winless Colts will have a new quarterback and a new defensive coordinator when they head to New England this weekend.

And they may not be finished making changes.

On Tuesday, Indianapolis fired defensive coordinator Larry Coyer and announced that quarterback Dan Orlovsky will make his first start since 2008 as the team suffers through its first 0-11 season since 1986.

Coach Jim Caldwell, whose own job could be in jeopardy, said the decision on Coyer was made to "improve communication and production."

"We feel this is the most effective and realistic way to move forward and win games this season," Caldwell said in a statement before a scheduled news conference. "We appreciate all of the effort and hard work Larry Coyer put forth in his three years with the Colts."

Coyer was a defensive assistant for two years in Tampa Bay and in Denver from 2000-06, and he coached Caldwell in college at Iowa. Colts linebackers coach Mike Murphy will take over the defense.

Indianapolis has struggled on both sides of the ball this season after losing quarterback Peyton Manning, who hasn't played in a game while he recovers from Sept. 8 neck surgery -- his third procedure in a span of 19 months.

Firing Coyer is the first move in what likely will be many for the Colts as the front office faces key decisions about Manning, Caldwell and at least a half-dozen other key veterans. Indianapolis is the clear front-runner to land the No. 1 pick next spring and many wonder if the Colts will choose Stanford's Andrew Luck or another top quarterback with an eye toward the end of the Manning era.

The decision about Orlovsky has only added to the speculation.

Indy signed 17-year veteran Kerry Collins to a $4 million contract to back up Manning. But when Collins sustained a concussion late in a Week 3 loss to Pittsburgh, Curtis Painter took over. Painter, who grew up in Indiana and played at Purdue, started the next seven games and played well early.

Painter then posted four straight weekly quarterback ratings below 51.0 heading into Indy's bye week, prompting many fans to call for another change.

Caldwell stuck with Painter on Sunday against Carolina, and after another slow start, he twice got the Colts into position to possibly force overtime. But both drives ended with interceptions in the end zone and the Colts lost 27-19.

Orlovsky has started seven games in his NFL career, all during the 2008 season when the Detroit Lions went 0-16. This season, Orlovksy is 14 of 21 for 122 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Changes shouldn't be a surprise at this point, not for a team going through a jaw-dropping crash.

After going 14-2 and winning an AFC title in his rookie season, then winning another AFC South crown last season despite a rash of debilitating injuries to his team, Caldwell is staring at a winless season that would drop his overall regular-season mark to 24-24. Team officials have said they believe in Caldwell, but the calls are growing louder from fans for dramatic changes.

Owner Jim Irsay has fired only two coaches since taking over from his father in 1997 (Lindy Infante and Jim Mora), and he has offered staunch support for the front office. He's been less enthusiastic about Caldwell.

Unless their QB situation is enough for the Titans to win the division on Chris Johnson's legs.
