Gurley is one of the first players we've seen actually talk about the possibility of sitting out.

NFL just called a meeting for for 1:30 p.m. today with owners, GMs, Presidents and head coaches to update everyone on the state of its discussions with the NFLPA, per source.

They don't want the cap to go down and they want more protection from COVID-19, especially for their families.

Why worry about the cap for next year right now? They've been so last-minute about things so far.

And I get that everyone's uneasy about COVID protocols but again, I don't know what they're specifically unhappy about. Wearing masks? Frequency of testing? Depth chart increases to accommodate people being put on a COVID Inactive list?

To be fair, some of this responsibility relies on the players. They have to do their part too.

Well I don't know exactly, I imagine most of the grievances are going to get aired out today. Pretty much all teams report by the 28th so it needs to get dealt with today if they don't want widespread hold-outs.

Wouldn't surprise me if some stars sit out the season. Just like baseball we could see some star players opting out any day now.

Money. For some players who are on their last year or doing year to year, having a smaller cap means less money.

Reading up on Gurley, he signed a one year deal with the Falcons hoping to cash in on his performance. So now even if he manages to impress, some teams might not be able/willing to offer the money he is seeking.

Teams and players need to evenly split the revenue loss. They’re in it together.

Interesting, important resolution to new CBA agreement, per source: There will be a fund/benefit established to pay back any benefits eliminated as a result of covid up to 2023 AND paying back any lost guaranteed money to players.

A handful of key issues and questions from the last few weeks have been settled. First, training camp activities will move forward as scheduled on July 28, including on-field practices starting 16 days into camp with the first padded practice scheduled for 21 days into camp. The new agreement guarantees the salary cap will be at least $175 million for the 2021 season. Practice squads will increase to 16 players. There will be two categories for opt-outs: high risk and not. Also, the 2020 season was described as "pay as you go," therefore if the season were to halt entirely, players would not be paid for unplayed games. The 32 team representatives still need to vote on this deal, but it would be shocking if they go against the NFPLA's recommendation.
